to_lighter Posted December 30, 2008 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Hi gang, Just got back from vacation, and I can't communicate with my ISY99i PRo. Tried rebooting computer, using different computer, rebooting ISY, rebooting ISY + PLM, resetting whole network. This is a problem, as the ISY is still functioning. Unfortunately, it is functioning in Vacation mode, which means that it wants to cycle lights, keep the heat down, etc. Any suggestions? Cheers! Link to comment

If the later, maybe while you were gone it's DHCP-issued IP was changed by a power outage and reboot. If that is a possibility, then you could use your serial cable to telnet into it and check its current IP. Link to comment

Is it possible that ISY is not on the network (bad cable)? If your programs are still running and if you have rebooted ISY, then the LEDs will provide great clues as to what could be going on. Plugging in the ethernet cable that usually leads to the PLM into my laptop did not work (the 99i does not even turn on in that case). Cheers! Link to comment

Hi Michel, Power light is on. Rx flashing, less frequent flashes from the TX. Occasional flash of the Mem light. The Error light is off. The activity lights for both the ethernet connectors on the 99i and on my switch are blinking, indicating network traffic. Cheers! Link to comment

to_lighter Posted December 30, 2008 Author Share Posted December 30, 2008 Problem solved. I left it plugged in for a while, and didn't try to access it. Then I tried to access using the http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/ method, and there it was. Subsequently I could access the 99i directly by typing its IP into the web browser, or by telnet. Common mistake...but as Michel warned, not one you want to make if you can avoid it. The port that goes to the PLM is a serial connection...labeled port B if my memory serves me, but that is way down in the basement and too far to walk right now! OK. Algorithm Posted December 30, 2008 Share Posted December 30, 2008 All ISY's have three ports: one Ethernet port (labeled Network), and two serial ports (labeled Port A and Port B). Port A is always the PLM port, and Port B the administrative port. Port B is always a DB-9 connector. The difference is that on the ISY-99i series, Port A uses an RJ-45 jack (like the Ethernet port, but without the LEDs), and therefore can use a standard Cat5 cable between the ISY and the PLM. On the ISY-26 Port A uses a DB-9 connector, and therefore requires the DB-9 to RJ-45 cable that is included with the PLM. Port B is also the serial port to be used by the future serial expander device. Link to comment
