Scott847 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Well I want a RELIABLE motion sensor Insteon motion sensors have been working GREAT for the last 6 months this one gets 'stuck' in the ON position it has happened twice already. I really like the device I just want it to be reliable because based on its reading I turn on/turn off the thermostat when I enter/leave the house so it's a critical function has this happened to you? (stuck in ON) All of my Z-Wave motion sensors have been reliable. However, no device will be 100% reliable and there are a variety of ways to deal with this. For example, you could have ISY email you if a motion sensor is on for more than 10 minutes. --- My impression with Fibaro is that even though I love how small it is I am afraid the battery won't last too much and the antenna is not too powerful. That is why I was thinking buying more devices so it works. The ONLY way I will be able to see if this is ISY weak antenna or Fibaro weak antenna is if I can test with another Z-Wave device. --- The latest version of the Fibaro MS manual doesn't say anything about battery life but an earlier version says "The Fibaro Motion Sensor’s battery life is approximately 2 years at factory default settings." I've had the sensor for several months and the battery is still going strong. With alpha firmware 5.0.4 and Z-Wave you're in uncharted waters and it would be good to have another Z-Wave motion sensor to play with or to wait until a beta version of 5.x or later is out if you want to let others do the testing. So I think with Fibaro I have to essentially place it NEXT to the ISY lol until I expand my Z-Wave network! If you've decided to proceed with Z-Wave you'll probably avoid a lot of headaches if you get the basic Z-Wave mesh set up with two or more non-battery Z-Wave Plus devices as Michel and Chris have recommended. Although it hasn't been as fully tested as a Z-Wave repeater by the community as the Aeotec Siren, the Aeotec Smart Switch 6 ZW-096-A02 has many similar specs to the Siren and might be an alternative that could be useful both as a repeater and a switch.

I have 3 of the Smart Switch 6. One beside my ISY (in the basement), one near the front door, and one near the back door, to support my Yale locks. My house is cinder block construction with drywall + plaster. It's been working fairly well, although I may add one more device in my garage as soon as I can find something that's rated to - 20C, as the communication to the lock on the garage side door isn't perfect. Note both the Siren and Smart Switch 6 are only rated down to 0C. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
rafarataneneces Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Can you please tell me if you have Energy Measurement from the Aeotec Smart Switch 6? if so, this would be a PERFECT device extending the Z-Wave Plus network AND also giving me on/off features PLUS giving me energy measurements!!! can you please confirm so I can buy it right away!!! thanks!!

Yes, it shows Amps, Watts, Volts and cumulative kWh.
rafarataneneces Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 wow great! One last question is there any way to reset the cumulative kWh? ideally I would like to reset it every month
Scott847 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 wow great! One last question is there any way to reset the cumulative kWh? ideally I would like to reset it every month I'm not aware of a way to reset it from ISY. But you can achieve the same result by saving the previous end-of-month value in a variable and subtracting that from the current cumulative kWh.

Ok I ordered the Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Smart Switch 6 from Amazon! I can't wait to test it!! I hope it makes my Z-Wave network a little bit less weak. My hope is to have 3-4 of these devices in the near future to monitor watt usage of my computer, fridge (I have 2), amplifier, and tv. This is so cool I REALLY hope the statistics can be sent to ISY!!
Guitartexan01 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 FWIW, I went all z-wave in my home (2700sq.ft) I started adding devices from closest to the isy to furthest from isy. I have about 35 devices. I have some outside a brick wall and even have one inside my exterior panel (all metal enclosure). I have had zero problems with communication for going on two years now. GT
deebou9 Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I have 5 Fibaro Multi Sensors, in one house there are two that were installed in early 2015, and in another house I have three installed in mid 2016. All 5 work well with no problems for my purposes (motion and tamper detection), although occasionally I notice some of the environment sensors drop out for periods of time and then come back later.
