Z-Wave device to monitor energy usage

Featured Replies

Posted

I have the Belkin WeMo Insight and the TP-Link Smart Plug with Energy Management.

Is there a device (I know Insteon had one a few years ago) that works with Z-Wave?

Thanks!

WOW that device looks sooo cool especially if it can communicate energy measurement with ISY!!!

has anybody tried the energy monitoring yet???

I'm using the Smart Switch 6 on my ISY 4.5.1 to control my dehumidifier and report energy usage. The data is sent from ISY to http://www.smartenergygroups.com and I can see usage charts there.

that's great

you can also send those stats and record them as variables in the ISY right?

I'm currently using it on ISY 4.5.1, which has some limitations in how device data can be used in variables. I've just started using 5.0.4 and am learning its capabilities.

What do you want to do with the energy data? Someone more familiar with 5.0.x will be able to more directly answer the question.

Following chart is an example from a couple days ago from data sent to Smart Energy Groups.

The red line is the dehumidifier power from a Smart Switch 6. The green line is total house power from an Aeotec Home Energy Meter. Biggest energy usage in my house is air conditioner (in this case from around 9:30 to 12:30), followed by various always-on electronics, followed by dehumidifier.

The Aeotec Home Energy Meter I have is the "Home Energy Meter G2" DSB28-ZWUS. I believe there's a newer Z-Wave Plus version "Home Energy Meter Gen5" ZW095-A.
