oberkc Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) Certainly, there have been questions in the past from folks wanting to do this, so it seems certain that some do use the remotelinc as a garage remote. Equally certain is that range will depend on local conditions such as distance to nearest dual-band insteon device and material (brick, walls, boxes, etc...) between remotelinc and nearest device. I do not believe that there is any need for the ISY to "recognize" the presence of a device. I think it simply waits for a signal and, when it is present, the ISY reacts. Techman Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 This one 2342-232 If you want use this as a remote then, depending how your house and garage are configured, you'll need a dual band device or a range extender near the garage door in order to optimize the range of the remote which is only about 50 feet. The IOLinc, which I assume you'll be using to trigger the garage opener is not a dual band device.

Seems to me my GD opener has better range than insteon. I use my Elk to confirm GD status and soldered a standard Home Depot transmitter to a wired relay for "remote access" (I need battery backup here for the transmitter (cordless phone battery?) but I can start another thread) Are you planning to use iolinc to control? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The I/O linc on the opener is currently used to tell me if the door is opened or closed and so I can shut it remotely if left open. I lost my opener so am looking for a replacement and additional functionality (example: disable alarm as well as open door).
