remotelinc for garage door opener

Does anyone use one of these as their primary opener ?, if so are there any delays from when you get on your driveway to when the ISY recognizes that the remotlinc is in range and thus have the ability to open your door.

Can you be a little more specific. Are you referring to the 2342-222 Remotelinc?

Certainly, there have been questions in the past from folks wanting to do this, so it seems certain that some do use the remotelinc as a garage remote. 

 

Equally certain is that range will depend on local conditions such as distance to nearest dual-band insteon device and material (brick, walls, boxes, etc...) between remotelinc and nearest device.

 

I do not believe that there is any need for the ISY to "recognize" the presence of a device.  I think it simply waits for a signal and, when it is present, the ISY reacts.

If you want use this as a remote then, depending how your house and garage are configured,  you'll need a dual band device or a range extender near the garage door in order to optimize the range of the remote which is only about 50 feet.

 

The IOLinc, which I assume you'll be using to trigger the garage opener is not a dual band device.

I have a dual band switch linc about 10' from the IOLINC

As long as you get the visor clip you should be okay

 

Just 'cause this can be done, should it? Seems to me my GD opener has better range than insteon.

I use my Elk to confirm GD status and soldered a standard Home Depot transmitter to a wired relay for "remote access" (I need battery backup here for the transmitter (cordless phone battery?) but I can start another thread)

A range extender or a external dual band module such as an on/off module will probably give you better RF range due to the location of their antennas.

The I/O linc on the opener is currently used to tell me if the door is opened or closed and so I can shut it remotely if left open.  I lost my opener so am looking for a replacement and additional functionality (example: disable alarm as well as open door).
