Hello,

I'm very basic and not a techie guy that is super familiar with my system.

Had my ISY for 5+ years, just not great solving  issues.

System - ISY 994i

Firmware 4.5.4

UI 4.5.1

Issues began about 3 weeks ago when I cleaned out the closet the ISY resides in...  The network cables were all tangled up, I unplugged and untangled everything.  I noticed the network cable between iSY and PLM was pretty messed up so I put on a new network cable.  This is when the issues began.  I have tried 2 other network cables and just cant seem to get things working.

My issues is Mobilinc Pro and Alexa/amazon to turn things on and off stopped working.  However most but not all of programs are  running at their normal daily times by ISY.  When I log into the admin console, it updates every 10 seconds and says it cant connect to a device, slowly it goes to pretty much all devices and has issues.  While some work, most do not.

Could this be a PLM problem?  I just replaced the PLM 4 months ago.

Not sure how to determine what the real issue is.. As it says the PLM is connected, and some actions are happening.

Any advice or direction?

Thanks

Adam

That is NOT a "network cable".

It is a serial cable.

It just happens to use the same connector as Ethernet cables. (IMO a bad decision on the part of Insteon to use that connector. But of course UDI has no control over that, and has to work with what was given on the PLM.)

It's fine to use Ethernet patch cables (it's designed to use them) but note:

1. It is a point-point SERIAL (RS232) connection between the ISY (Port A) and the PLM. Do NOT connect either the ISY Port A or PLM to an Ethernet switch or device!

2. Make sure you do NOT use a "crossover cable". It's unlikely, since this is mostly a thing of the past, from when Ethernet equipment typically didn't have "auto MDIX" (allows straight-through cables to be used when a crossover cable would otherwise be needed) but if you have an old collection of cables, make sure you don't use a crossover.

Ok, the UI has been updated to match the firmware.

Sorry generic network cable term used. It is is a new patch cable.

still having same issues

Crossover cables are not a "thing of the past," they're still needed to connect a network device directly to a computer.

Not if one end or the other of the connection has Auto-MDIX:

I was of the impression that most/all current Ethernet switches, desktop & notebook computers have Auto-MDIX ports.

I'm sure I have some crossover cables lurking, but would likely never know if I grabbed one and used it!

Dunno how prevalent Auto-MDIX is with IOT devices.

Apple computers have had Auto-MDIX I think from the start of X86 models.

A crossover cable negates the need for a router or switch. Not everyone has the latest hardware.

To determine if the cable is a crossover, hold the connectors with the same ends parallel and facing you where you can see the colors of the wires. If the colors are reversed left to right, then the cable is a crossover cable.
