Want to Purchase and Do I need

I am very new to home automation, so please excuse any ignorance.

 

I am interested in buying the ISY controller. My questions.

 

1. does the PRO come with only Z-Wave support or do I need to purchase the PRO that comes with both Z-Wave and IR (the latter is the only one I see on the site)

2. Do I need a PLM. The reason I ask is that in reading various forums (not here) I read that if I download some firmware from Z-Wave it will stop looking for the PLM thus I do not need it. Is this accurate?

1. You can buy the Pro in one of the set-up configurations or you can buy a basic Pro and add modules as you need them.

2. Insteon (and X10) devices require a PLM. Z-wave devices do not.
