I am reluctant to start messing with my scenes, but I am trying to get my PLM link count down.

 

Let's say that I have two scenes, each populated by the same group of lights. One scene is at 100% brightness for all of the lights, one scene is at 75%. Could I get rid of the second scene by simply using the "Adjust Scene" command in a program, and set the brightness to 75%? If so, once sending the adjustment, do I then need to turn the scene on for the lights to move to 75% brightness? Finally, does this permanently change the scene, or does the scene remember its original programming the next time that it is turned on?

 

The same line of questions applies to adjustments of the ramp time.

I can't blame you for that. I am spoiled myself using scenes like popcorn.

 

Could you make one scene at 75% and then send a FastOn to set it to 100%? I know that defeats ramp rates, but with a Wait...

 

AFAIK the Adjust Scene function does change the links in the the devices so you would have to Adjust Scene again to set the devices back to the original values.

First, Adjust Scene can only adjust a scene controlled by ISY; it will not adjust the same scene as controlled by another controller in the scene.

 

Next, as Rand mentioned, it remains in force until it is once again changed, because it modifies the the links in the devices, and therefore it will result in significant INSTEON traffic for a large scene.

 

Finally, it only changes the devices' links, so yes you would then have to activate the scene to have the new settings take effect.

 

Depending on how often you wish to modify the scene, all of the above may be perfectly acceptable. However, if your reason for having two scenes is due to the fact that you make frequent use of both, then you would do better to keep both scenes, in my opinion, unless you are not using a long ramp rate for the 100% scene, in which case Rand's idea of using Fast On is an excellent one.

I use different scenes to make sure that the lights are at the appropriate brightness for the time of day when they are turned on. For particular lights that are most often turned on in the house, I have scenes that turn them slowly down after dusk. I think I'll keep the scenes as they are, as it sounds like the program route would be even more complicated. Next week I'll look into one of the PLMs that can handle over 2000 links.
