Google Home struggles with "lights"

I've been using our Amazon Echo's with the ISY since the original integration and it works great. Most of my spokens don't include the word "lights". For example, I have a scene with the spoken "Kitchen" but not "Kitchen Lights". Alexa works fine when we say "Turn kitchen lights on/off". It has no problem ignoring the word "lights". So now I've just enabled our Google Home with the ISY but it only works with the exact spoken phrase. If we say "Turn kitchen on/off" it's fine, but if we say "Turn kitchen lights on/off" it says "Those lights haven't been set up yet." Even if I set the room in the google app to Kitchen it still won't work? Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Same here. If I say "Turn Sally's light on" it works. But if I say "Turn Sally on" it doesn't understand.

 

There is a big advantage in always including the word "light". I have "Kitchen light", "Porch light" etc. So I can say "Which lights are on and it will list every light that is on and tell me how many are off.

 

I also have outdoor motion sensors, which I named in Google Home as "Porch sensor", "driveway sensor", etc. I can ask "Which sensors are on" and then GH tells me where motion has just occurred outside my house. This solves a big problem for me. I set up sensors to turn on outdoor lights, but in the daytime, motion anywhere outside just produces a "ding-ding" and I don't know where the motion occurred. Now I can ask Google.

 

The advantage of using the word "light" with all your lights is so you can ask "Which lights are on" and it doesn't confuse the Porch light with the Porch sensor. Or, in your case, it could confuse the kitchen light with anything else in the kitchen you want to control.

 

We don't have Echo here in Canada. But GH arrived a week ago. I grabbed one I had preordered and had it working in minutes. It was so fantastic I bought more so I can talk to GH devices all over my house. Now I've decided I'll probably never get an Echo. With the Echo being limited to just the USA, Google will rapidly move ahead. Google is ahead in being able to use any Chromecast device or Android TV, while Echo requires you to buy an Echo Show.
