sanders2222 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Some time in the last year I lost the ability to log into my ELKM1 Gold through my ELK-RP software. Fortunately, the link to the ISY was never broken and I've been able to access/control the ELK (for the most part) through the ISY. My problem may have started when I swapped out my router, not sure. But after I open the RP account and try to connect, I get a "Cannot Initialize Secure Connection" message (see attached). Recently I noticed my router table did not list the device until I entered the Mac address. However, adding it to the list did not restore the connection. It's been many years since I initially installed the system and I seem to recall at one time I needed an installers password to gain access. But now that I think of it, that problem may have been something else altogether. At any rate, I would like to restore the ability to log into the system as I would like to update information as well as any rule that might have been set up. I'm hoping it's something simple. Does anyone know what my issue may be and/or the fix? Hey, it's Christmas, the season of miracles!
MWareman Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 If you are using Windows 10, the older M1XEPs firmware is not compatible due to only supporting SSL3 which is not present in Windows 10. Elk have a special firmware updater to work around the issue - if indeed that’s your issue.

That may be my issue. I installed a PC upgrade 13 months ago that came with Win 8.1. I think the RP was working then. But at some point I upgraded to Win 10 (as you indicated creates this error message). Assuming that is my issue, how would I fix it? How can I find out what firmware my XEP has? According to ELK firmware download information, I would need an older OS to access the M1XEP in order to update it. I no longer have an older PC with Win 7 or 8. Can a new M1XEP be purchased that will connect with Win 10? OR do I need to figure out how to get my hands on an older computer?
MWareman Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 I would install VirtualBox and install an older OS into it (that’s what I did). Once the XEP is updated you shouldn’t have any difficulty accessing from Win10. Alternatively, I think you can update over a serial connection - but I’ve never tried that.
