Mobilinc HD with ISY Network Module

Recommended Posts

Yes. They are for 2 different functions. The network module adds additional capabilities to the ISY and its programs, and will be found in the Admin Console under Configuration / Networking after you buy it and its enabled.

What you may have heard is that if you buy the ISY Portal subscription, as opposed to Mobilinc Connect, it gives you access to the Network Module functionality for as long as you subscribe.  However if buy the Network Module outright, its yours.

The network module allows you to:

  • host your own personal web site or 3rd party applications right on your ISY,
  • control network-enabled devices through ISY programs (TCP/UDP/HTTP/HTTPS),
  • turn on PCs using Wake On LAN

It does not relate to, or overlap, the mobilinc app, moblinc hd or mobilinc connect functionality

Ok - one more question:

Does the ISY Portal Module affect Mobilinc HD?

Universal Devices says - THIS WII DEACTIVATE MOBILINC CONNECT MODULE.

But will Mobilinc still work the same as it does now if I install the ISY Portal.

I believe it does, and that each is a little different. I don' know the differences, but someone with experience with using both will have to chime in.

If you don't get response, ask about the differences in either ISY Portal or Mobilinc sub forums.  I've seen discussions in the past about it but they are spread across the forum.

So you first asked about the ISY Network Module and then attempted to buy the ISY Portal service.  You had gotten answers with respect the the Network Module, not Portal - they are not the same, but the ISY POrtal includes free use of the Network Module for as long as you are subscribed.

As you see when trying to add the portal module, it does indeed replace the Mobilinc portal as you cannot have two portals active, and you should not need them both.  I have never had the Mobilinc Connect portal but I am able to connect Mobilinc to my ISY from outside the house without configuring remote access because the ISY Portal does it for me, securely.

If you have Mobilinc Connect (Subscription Service), adding ISY Portal (Subscription service) will disable that.

Mobilinc HD (the IOS App) is NOT Mobilinc Connect (the subscription service).

You can configure Mobilinc HD to connect directly to your ISY (no subscription required), to Mobilinc Connect (Mobilinc Connect subscription required) or ISY Portal (ISY Portal subscription required). As long as you have not configured the Mobilinc HD App to use the Mobilinc Connect service you will have no issue adding ISY Portal. You don’t have to reconfigure Mobilinc HD at all by doing this. It will continue as it does today.

The purchase of the ISY Portal module includes a two year subscription...

I have not purchased either the ISY Portal or the Network Module. I am in the process of making that decision.

When I looked at the ISY Portal I saw it included the Network Module also so that was why I asked the question.

Also it appears that the ISY Portal had some other advantages as well.

I am well pleased with the way I can control my Insteon Devices and write programs with ISY 994i. I also like how I can see my Network Cameras and Insteon Devices on Mobilinc HD. I want to keep it that way.

Now I want to expand and add other functions such as my Sonos and other Network Devices and figured I would need either the Network Module or the ISY Portal. Wouldn’t the ISY Portal be a better choice since it already contains the Network Module as well as some other features. I understand there would be a $10 a year subscription with the ISY Portal.
