Cannot link ISY 99i with Insteon KeypadLink

Recommended Posts

I cannot get my ISY 99i unit to recognize my KeypadLink dimmers.

The ISY sees my Venstar T-1800 with the Insteon Thermostat Adapter with no problem.

I have one access point piggy backed on the ISY PLM unit and another access point in another part of the house.

From the Universal Devices Administrative Console, neither the auto-discovery mode (through the Start Linking button) nor the manual add (through New Insteon Device button) works for adding the KeypadLink dimmers.

Some things I have noticed:

  • The ISY event viewer does show commands from my X10 controls.
The ISY event viewer does not show any commands from the KeypadLink controls.

So, given the log session below and the event log information above, it seems to me that the Insteon power line portion of my setup is not working correctly, but I don't know what to try next.

Any suggestions?

Hardware/Software versions:

Insteon KeypadLink 2486D 6 - Button V1.8

ISY 99i Insteon_UD99 v2.7.0

Hello blakevh,

The first step would be to ensure the Access Points are installed correctly: 2443qs.pdf.

Using the method in the Quick Start guide you may need to relocate your second AP closer to the KPL or you may need to change the outlet your PLM is plugged into. A PLM plugged into the same circuit as a PC is often a problem. You can use an extension cord to test other nearby outlets. If you find an outlet that works well it should not be an issue to use a longer Cat5 cable between the PLM and the ISY and/or between the ISY and your router to eliminate the extension cord.

If you find that moving AP #2 works for the KPL and not the thermostat you will probably have to add another AP. Smarthome now has a wired-in Insteon phase coupler: SignaLinc-INSTEON-Phase-Coupler-Hardwired/p.aspx if you prefer.

  • 3 weeks later...

No matter where the Insteon Access Points were placed in my house (and I tried almost every outlet) the ISY 99i would not see or control my Insteon switches.

What finally solved the problem was to install the Insteon Signalinc Phase Coupler 2406H.
