Uh oh... upgrade problems

Well I jumped in, and backed up my 4.6.2 and downloaded and installed 5.0.12, even followed the "instructions" Now I cannot log in tote admin console, my old credentials do not work,. AND to add insult to injury after being able to access the portal, I managed to screw that up too, and cannot get into anything.

I am sure the issue is a user problem, and maybe I just ned an answer from Michael via my support request... unless... anyone has any ideas?

Its been a couple of years, but the directions I used told me that the password reverts back to admin/admin (not sure about upper lower case) when you first upgrade from a V4 to a V5 FW. You login with that and the set it back to what you want

Well, a little effort and pokng around trying to find things online that might help led to success. A little frustration (but that was due to me, not UDI or 5.0.12) and some rewriting but all appears to be up and running now. Some very interesting stuff....and the curve gets steeper.

<grin> my thoughts exactly. The harder the task, the greater the reward once "mastered". I think we need a forum category for folks like  me to to post their "aha" moments or ask "newbie" questions. Old hands often assume a level of base knowledge that should suggest obvious solutions... a base many of us lack: e.g.  I still want an easy description of configuration change steps for Z-Wave modules against which I can gauge my failing efforts in a particular case. Is it me, or is it the device, or?

The wikis are great, but often written by folks with a far greater understanding, and hence level of assumption. Not a criticism, folks like you are very willing to share, but I hate asking...

And as for the additional capabilities of 5.0.12...WOW. My HA future includes ISYand UDI and I am not sorry I am on the cutting edge on an alpha release, with attendant potential problems... I know the folks supporting this are "all in". Support from UDI is unmatched.

Yep- exactly. I've been through activehome, ADI C-max, houselinc, all 3 versions of HomeSeer and now the ISY. What's common between them is the need for reading (wikis, manuals and engaging other users experience in posts), practice, taking some risks and a lot of patience. If those are not all present and in the forefront, it will end in a lot of frustration.

Its best to reduce the number of variables. Start with less important functionality that has fewer devices. Get that working and your confidence up. Give it some time so WAF is not cratered. Then pick the next most complex functionality and implement it, and keep that process going.  Once the spouse / family see value, get their input on what's next. Do not go "big bang" and try to do it all at once. While it takes time do that , in the end it will be less time then repeated failures and less frustrating than expecting it work unreasonably.

While I think the term 'Agile' is overused and misapplied like a cheap bumper sticker, this approach really is an Agile approach.

I'm glad you tried, and glad it worked out for you.
