asdfejf Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I’m currently running v 4.7.3 and would like to utilize an energy-monitoring plug that I can use to trigger some sort of action to notify me that the washer or dryer is done (by monitoring when there was a big drop in power consumption). Has anybody done this? is there a z-wave product that is reliable and accurate that can do this with the firmware version I am using? If so, what would the implementation look like?
BigfootC Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I had a similar problem when I wanted to monitor the running of my well pump. I wanted to know when it came on, how long it ran for, and when it shut off. I used a Dwyer Instruments CCS-121050 (Current Switch) to detect when current is being drawn on my pump circuit. It either opens or closes a contact. Its output is then monitored by an Insteon 2450 I/O Line. In the ISY I have programs which respond to the opening and closing.

I do exactly this, using an Aeotec energy sensing plug (you could use any plug that reports real-time energy usage) with both washer and dryer plugged into it - since I really only care when both are done. the washer has periods of time when it drops to almost 0 for a few moments, so I have a program that watches energy usage and waits for it to drop to 0 for more than 2 minutes, then triggers the alert that the laundry is complete.
asdfejf Posted January 6, 2019 Author Posted January 6, 2019 Quick update. I’ve tried the Aeotec Smart Switch 6 and it is working like a charm. I’ve set up programs to set/unset a variable based on utilization of energy. So when the variable is true (machine is on) then the utilization drops, it means it must have stopped and it sends an alert through my sonos speakers utilizing a network url. Thanks for everyone’s advice!
auto.neub Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Could either of you post an example of your programs? I have a zooz zwave energy monitor and can't get a good program going for this... I had one setup to notify me when energy goes below a certain threshold but then it would just constantly notify me whenever the washer want running. Somehow I need it to know that it WAS running and THEN stopped. Thanks in advance.
