Z-Wave Network(secur/non-secur/repeaters)

Hi, I'm trying to understand Z-Wave  Network.

Here is my current setup for the Z-Wave part only:

ISY-994Z, Kwikset doorlock and a Aeotec MultiSensor 6. I was able to make all that work but I get a lot on lost communication error with le Kwikset and I’m not able to put the Aeotec MultiSensor 6 in the room that is supposed to go.

So I bought 2 Aeotec Range Extender 6 and another Aeotec MultiSensor 6.

I know that Aeotec Range Extender 6 support Secure Zwave encryption that is needed for the Kwikset doorlock .

I read for best practice:

1.    Unpair my Z-wave device from ISY-994Z.

2.       Plug the Aeotec Range Extender 6

3.    Pair it with the ISY-994Z.

4.    After par my device.

My question:

1.    I need to pair Aeotec Range Extender 6 in Secur mode for use with Kwikset doorlock. Do I need to pair all my Aeotec Range Extender 6 in Secur mode?

2.    When there are pair in Secur mode do the repeater still work with non Secur device like my Aeotec MultiSensor 6?

3.    What the step if I a bring new repeater in the future, do I need to unpair everything again?

1) Shouldn’t be necessary normally, but in a small network like yours it’s advisable. The reason is the last device in the chain needs to talk securely to the lock to wake it up and command it.

2) Yes. Secure devices can communicate just fine with non-secure devices.

3) No. When you add a new repeater and want to teach the existing devices, simply ‘Repair’ your network after including the new device and placing it in its permanent location.
