Smart Meter just installed, need a little info

DUKE Energy just installed my new Smart Meter last month.

It is a:

Centron, OpenWay, by Itron

Codes: See below pictures

Has anyone had any interaction with DUKE Energy (Florida in my case)? I am looking at connecting to the new Smart Meter, but not sure of the easiest way of going about it. I have the Zigbee module on the ISY994i, currently interfaces with my Burltech GEM/DashBox for Electrical data. The two things of interest are the HAN and IHD. Do I have to purchase a module from someplace that links to the Smart Meter and then be linked to the ISY or does the ISY connect directly to the Smart Meter with the Zigbee module?

I  do have the ecobee 4, but I am reluctant to interface that because of the possibility of DUKE overriding my settings (AC or HEAT).

@Mustang65,

Congrats! The first thing you need to do is to figure out whether or not Duke allows connection of HAN devices. If it does, then - and unfortunately - just because something is Zigbee does not mean that it supports other Zigbee things. And, therefore you will either need to replace your Zigbee board (in ISY) with this one or buy another ISY with Zigbee SEP installed.

With kind regards,
Michel

Dude, it seems to me that these are ordinary meters because they are not at all like modern smart meters. Recently, I received just a giant energy bill and when I demanded to lower the price from my supplier, he said that he could install smart meters and this would facilitate my energy control and help me save. I also decided to read more about these counters and I found a lot of useful information on usave. So I advise you to read with this article. By the way, this is a really cool thing, and in the second month, thanks to these meters, I was able to increase the energy efficiency of my home!

From your local electrical utility. They can install it if they support that type of billing. If not you could likely buy your own from a supplier but the meter may cost you a few hundred bucks for quantity one. Then installing a meter base and wiring it in may cost another $500...rough guess. You would need the ISY zigbee card to talk to the meter, provided that ZigBee protocol is supported. Zigbee has had no standards until a short time ago so UDI would have to verify the standard their card supports.

There are much cheaper and easier methods to get metering data if you don't need the ~ +/-1.0%  energy accuracy.

As far as I know, you have to go directly to the mfr to purchase this meter. If you find it or any other one that you like, you can always have an electrician install it between your Power companies electric meter and your service panel. Personally, for what ever that is worth, I would go with an Energy Management system, like BrulTech Gem/DashBox. You can get the usage per circuit in your service panel. I capture it for the Mains, and all the individual circuits. Here is a link to my system. I can tell you how much energy my entire house is using down to the ISY light module that is located in my shed. You can have a look at my install by clicking on my webpage that goes into detail on my system. It is VERY accurate and adjustable.

Not sure as to how UDI is going to handle the Xbee/Polisy connection. Maybe they will go with the ZigBee® USB stick with ETRX357-LRS Long-range Module. We shall see
