Teken Posted January 20, 2020 Share Posted January 20, 2020 I wanted to start the conversation that many of us existing users have probably been chomping on the bits to know and confirm. This thread is intended to be a place holder where the facts and requirements are stated by UDI. I believe for the most part for those who have a basic system the migration is likely to be very straight forward vs some of us who have very advanced and complicated installs should be aware of. Backup: I'll start the ball rolling by asking and stating it's probably a good idea to have a recent and known good backup of the main system, programs, network resources, other? It's been so long since I had to back up the various directories it would be great if someone can confirm where they are. Supported Hardware: For me I would like to know and confirm what are the possible configurations of the PolyISY? I currently have four controllers in the home and two are primary in deployment. One is a ISY-994 IZ (ZigBee) which manages all of the energy in the home via Insteon. The other is a ISY-994 ZW (Z-Wave) which is slowly being phased into full deployment but as of this writing is tasked with Alpha / Beta trials for new hardware for various hardware companies. The last two units have been running on a an isolated secure network due to force protection needs. Hardware Matrix: Below is my take on what possible hardware is supported when the migration path is ready?!? - Insteon Only, Z-Wave Only, Insteon & ZigBee, ZigBee & Z-Wave, Insteon & ZigBee & Z-Wave? New PLM: There has been recent news that Smartlabs is intending to release a faster and larger capacity PLM. If and when this PLM comes to public release will the PolyISY remove the 1000 program limit that currently exists so the full potential of this hardware can be used? Blue Tooth: Once PolyISY is stable as a controller can we hope to use BLE for Geo Tags? WiFi: Once PolyISY is stable as a controller can we hope to use WiFi as another means to connect and integrate to WiFi only IoT devices? If all of the above is possible in the future this will surely make this controller the *One Ring* to control all *Things*! I do not expect to learn a hard migration date but to fully understand the companies intent and direction for this most powerful controller. So as I and many can set proper expectations as to what this next generation controller can and can't do in terms of hardware support. Thank You! I think I get how Polisy works.. a pre bundled Polyglot node server plus goodies. My basic question is can Polisy be used to install my own polyglot codes that are still in development, or can it only install the ones in the official library. i assume the former but the doc doesn't mention this. I suppose I could do a parallel rPi polyglot install but that seems silly now that I have the Polisy box. I sure hope it is something simple like ssh'ing into the box and using it sort of like I would a rPi. Just don't know enough yet. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, it won't necessarily have all your development tools available. I use VIM and that is available for the Polisy but prior to that I would clone my node server's git repository from another local copy on my development machine, use my development machine to edit and check in changes and then pull those over to the Polisy for testing. kewashi Posted January 26, 2020 Share Posted January 26, 2020 Got it — makes total sense. I use a rPI and my windows machine as dev tools so this should be simple. I got my first poly installed. It was easy.. unfortunately it was the ecobee poly that installed thermostats as lights so I must have done something wrong. Will check that thread for guidance. Thanks again.
