Can't Get to Admin Console!!

Recommended Posts

I've been fine for a few years on getting to the console.  Today, I updated Java and took the option to remove obsolete Java pieces.  Since then I can't get anywhere.  The finder apparently isn't findable.  Not sure what else to do, but i NEED to get into the system somehow.  Anyone have any thoughts?    Thanks.

I have always entered the url manually. Then it remembers.

When I enter the URL manually I get a screen I've not seen.  I select the Adminstrative console and  end up with this....  Not sure where I go to get back where I only see the Console downloading and then it asks for the password.

At sea!  I cleared the Java cache.  I ran the start.jnlp.  Was told my Java was out of date.  Installed Java again.  Re-ran start.jnlp (or maybe it was Admin.jnlp – I can’t recall after all this testing.).  Got a message (first time I’ve ever seen it) that said enter URL.  Tried that.   Message says bad URL.  After that, al I get is “Not Found”.  I KNOW it’s me.  I just don’t know what I’m missing, or doing wrong.

Thanks.

If you get the dialogue to enter the URL, then make sure you enter a complete and valid http URL, such as:

http://192.168.1.20

OK.  I changed the previous shortcut to reflect the newer Java (1.8.0_241/bin  to 1.8.0_251/bin)  but I’m not certain why I needed to DO that.  It got me to the Admin Console but at an unacceptable screen size.  It doesn’t fit and don’t how to rescale it.  I guess I need to know how to get back to the other, more acceptable and clearer version.  I also would like to know how to get back to the screen that requested that I input the URL.  I never DID see what that looked like, since it didn’t like the URL I entered and I didn’t get a subsequent opportunity.

I’ve been using my 994I for a few years now.  Every once in a while, I lose my way to finding the
Admin console, for whatever reason.  It would certainly be nice to really know how to get to these tools without driving myself crazy, or running the risk of losing the stellar support of you fine people via “crying wolf” each time.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Is there another way?  When I click on the shortcut below, Java launches and downloads an application.  Soon, the Administrative Console sign-on dialog box appears.  Once I enter my ID and Password, the console initializes.  Hidden by that panel, is the Finder not found error box.  Every time!

If this is the way it’s supposed to work, I’ve no problem living with it.  It’s been like this since day one. .  I’m not sure I’ve EVER seen what the “finder” should have found.  If this is either the incorrect way to get to the console, or if it’s a less than safe way to get to the console, then I could use some guidance.

There was some advice about entering the ISY IP address.  During my latest attempts to figure this out I saw a box requesting that, but I messed up the entry and then never got to see that box again.   Someone else suggested entering the UUID, but I’ve not found where that should be entered either.  How important is this finder, and do I need to worry about at all?

Thanks for listening.  I know I’m too old for this anymore but it’s usually still fun.  It’s only on real frustrating days like today that I waver about continuing.

Why aren't you using the launcher linked here?  It shouldn't be downloading anything every time, and I never launch java to start the admin console.  But no...it should not be as you describe. It should be simple download/run the ISY Launcher and it should open an ISY Finder that will fill in your UID/URL. You then click on the ISY and select Admin Console.

I tried that ad nauseum!  It doesn't work for me!  Between that and other suggested methods, I’ve ended up with many copies of “start.jnlp” and “admin.jnlp”, but no success of any kind.  Hence my frustration!  The java code asks to be saved, not run.  Cache cleared each and every time.  See attached.  Comment?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to start a ticket with UDI and see if they can do a remote help session with your computer to help you out. Something isn't working right, and they should have somebody that can walk you through the steps on the phone or get you a remote connection to see what you're seeing as you go through the process.

You should start by deleting all prior downloads of start.jnlp or other downloads you've been doing.

Good luck.

It starts Java, downloads something, runs that something, and I end up with a "finder not found" box!  Every time!

Does that box have buttons on the bottom of it, such as in the screenshot below?

It might be helpful if you could post a screenshot of the box that appears on your desktop when you double click the "start.jnlp" file.

use that on a daily basis, don't go back to the URL in the browser.

Sometimes and if you can find it.

I have it in the top left corner, even when it goes away because i cleared java during an upgrade it re-appears back the same spot.... start.jnlp is above it, then the launcher.

Yes the box has those buttons.  When I select “ADD” and enter the URL, I get an “Invalid URL” message.  Yet if I enter the URL manually into any browser, I get to the Blue UD screen wherein I need to enter my ISY ID and password.  I now have choices…HOME   SETTINGS   HELP   ADMIN CONSOLE.  Home gets me to the list….  Devices, Scenes, Programs, etc.  “Help” does what it’s supposed.  “Settings“ SEEMS to be OK.  “Clear Cache” produces a box that says Cache Cleared. “Install Admin Console” produces the error shown in the attachments. I’ll be happy to try anything anyone suggests.

Thanks.

Yep!  That's what everybody says!  I've yet to see it. Therein lies the rub!

I found it more successful once I went into my java panel and deleted everything. Then it appeared on my desktop. IIRC I think I found it once in my downloaded docs even though I have a hard time finding it.  Other times located off the visible part of my Desktop and it showed up months later when I accidentally re-organised the layout. That was on my Win 10 laptop that MS allows me to use. I don't know about Apple loans.

Edit:  What URL are you adding to get "Invalid url"? Try:   http://192.168.1.142/desc

How do you get that ISY Finder window to open up in your screen above? Somehow you've got the program to launch. It might be putting it in that temp directory that you have all the start.jnlp downloads in. If I recall sometimes it wasn't adding to the desktop, but adding the ISY Finder to the directory you launched start.jnlp from. Look in that directory! Or maybe search the pc for "ISY Launcher" or "ISY Launcher.lnk" (l=L for link/shortcut)

@JLOB Are you an administrator user on the computer your using? You probably are if you're the only user of the computer, but it also could be that it's a shared computer that somebody added you to and you aren't an admin so maybe they don't allow the program to add the icon to the desktop. Also, make sure you have auto arrange on for the desktop that it might put it in in the next open space on the desktop. You've got icons everywhere.

Just by chance what version of windows are you running?

image.png.f6cdf81ce64406e7e72a611efa14eb8a.png

This is the icon it should add to the desktop.

image.png.d05ed2772305fd6158439a58a4c3f35b.png

Once you have start.jnlp and run it the ISY Launcher should open this window:

image.png.d700190901806a3ebe02cb4e944faa0f.png

You then left click on the ISY row and you get this appearance:

image.png.3cd045eba1e045be409757de00b3fcfc.png

Again, not entirely sure why your system keeps asking you to load java or go to a URL and download something again. That's why it's now best that you just start a help ticket and get them to help you through the steps. It's difficult to help beyond what others have offered for support on here without somebody watching/helping step-by-step.

Good luck!

So, I just installed a mesh router behind the damned AT&T router I have to live with, and my ISY has a new IP address of 10.0.0.21 (old one was 192.168.1.???).

So I ...

(1) downloaded a fresh copy of java and installed it, and cleared the cache,

(2) downloaded a fresh copy of start.jnlp from the Wiki and ran it.

It created the icon on the desktop, but when I launch from that, I get nothing. This has happened to me numerous times before, but I forgot the fix. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

OMG! Access your router and change your IP range back to your original router. This could save you a lot of agro changing many devices IP address and/or subnet in the house.

@JLOB

1) Running start.jnlp installs ISY finder and puts the icon on your desktop.  DO NOT RUN START.JNLP every time, it is not ISY finder, it is the installer for isy finder.

2) If you do not have the ISY finder icon on your desktop, completely clear your Java cache and then run start.jnlp to get it restored to your desktop.  Unfortunately, you have to do this every time Java updates.  I do not like java but what can you do.  To clear java, enter the word "java" in your win10 search window and then you will see a bunch of choices including "configure java", click on that one.  Then click on "temporary internet files", then click "delete", and I would just select all 3 options.

3) ISY finder should find your ISY if it is on the same subnet as your computer.  You should not have to manually enter the url.  If it is not finding it, then there is some sort of network issue with your LAN.  You can try manually entering it.  You must enter the full url, including the http.   ie http://192.168.1.34   you don't have to enter the /desc but you can.

If none of this works, then something is screwy with your network.  I suppose you could try rebooting ISY, but I doubt the issue is with ISY.  You can always try using a different computer.
