dimmer module issue

I am new to insteon and ISY so I am sorry if this is a simple newbie error.

I have some LED light strips plugged in to the wall that light under a cabinet. I connected them to an Insteon dimmer module to try and control them but when i plug the LED strip in the module continuously turns on and off. It works fine on a normal lamp around the house.

Thanks in advance

Robert

Hi Robert,

Almost all Insteon devices require a minimum load to operate correctly. You can test to see if this is the issue by simply adding something else on that line.

If adding say a night light in line with the LED strip allows the dimmer to operate correctly this affirms the minimum load is not present just with the LED strip.

If you don’t need any sort of dimming you may find using the on-off module operates much better.

Let us know what happens adding a night light or any load.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. I knew i should have just bought the on/off switch.

Give the night light series add on a try just to confirm. If placing a minimum of 5 watt resistive load doesn’t solve the issue. If you have a Insteon plug-in filter linc.

Add that on in case it’s line noise.

Some Insteon modules have Local Control Sensing. Where you can have a lamp plugged into it and  if the module is off. Cycling the lamps local switch from on to off and back on. Will turn the module on with out an Insteon command to turn it on.

Some loads like LEDs can falsely trigger them back on. Most present modules should default to ignore but you may want to look at the full manual and see how to disable it if enabled. I believe the modules listing in the administrative console. May have an options tab where it maybe controlled.
