Hi All,

 

I bought a home that had some additions added, so there are two separate breaker boxes for the house.  Does this mean I need to have 2 separate ISY's (and accompanying PLM) to run my Insteon products, since some of them could be running on wires that are on different boxes?  If I remember correctly (been a while since I set up Insteon in my current home) the Insteon signal run through the electrical wiring.

Nope.  As long as both boxes are fed from the same transformer, it should all "just work" (well, at least as well as it would work if you had a single panel...)

The wireless function of Insteon should bridge across phases where the powerline protocol gets isolated. If you have older switches like the ToggleLinc that only support powerline communication, you can bridge them with a LampLinc or On\Off module by finding an outlet on the same circuit. If you're starting out and buying new, this shouldn't be a problem because I think most new wired in devices are dual protocol.

My house has 2 breaker boxes and I have insteon on each.  It works fine.

I have 3. It works but I have range extenders, the PLM (and the ISY), a dual-mode outlet module and a dual-mode switchlinc all installed in the closet with the breaker panels and on breakers to ensure bridging of separate phases of the separate boxes. Ironically, that dual-mode switchlinc is the most unreliable device in my system right now, at least in terms of consistent communication with the PLM.

Thanks all. I'm using equipment that is quite a few years old but works.  I know I do have some of the dual band item so I'll give it a whirl.
