siegeld Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Just wondering - how loud do your ICON dimmers buzz? I know that dimmers all buzz to some extent - but mine seem pretty loud. Wondering if people can hear the buzz if they are standing, say, a foot from the dimmer?
Mark Sanctuary Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Are you talking about buzz from the device or the bulb? The only buzz I notice is bulb buzzing when I use incandescent bulbs. When the light is dimmed I can hear the filament vibrating in the bulb. I understand this is from the voltage chopping the dimmer does to create the lower level of energy to dim the light. As for device buzzing I only notice it if I sandwich my ear against the dimmer in the wall otherwise I can’t detect buzz from the dimmer. I have been a ten year plus soundman for my church so I could have some hearing loss, but I don’t think enough to cause me a hearing problem. I just asked my wife to try and find buzz from the dimmers and she also said she can only hear the bulb buzz. Since we have 90% halogen lighting in the house now it’s only a small issue for us.
siegeld Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Buzz from the dimmer itself. OK - I suspect for some reason my ICON dimmers are buzzing far too much!
Mark Sanctuary Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Do you have more than one dimmer? Do they all buzz bad or is it just one of them? If it’s noticeable I am guessing two things; one it could be the load is causing an issue with the dimmer, or two it could be a bad dimmer.
