Using insteon hub as PLM (yes it works)

Hey everyone.

My PLM died recently but I had an insteon hub lying around and so I thought "a hub probably just has a plm inside".  I also conveniently had an extra PCB lying around that had space for an rj45 port and rs232 chip.

Long story short, it does and it works with a few modifications to connect it to ISY.

Just in case you were wondering.

Is the HUB the older 2242-222 or the later 2245-222? From the photo it looks more like the 2245-222 HUB.

I have seen the 2242-222 mentioned here. Where someone had the network assembly removed and wired into a Serial Port PLM daughter board.

If it is the newer 2245-222 can you give more details on where the serial interface was connected?

2245.  It is easy to figure out where to connect the serial just by looking at the 18f25j10 datasheet for the tx/rx pins.  I'm not sure I want to do a how-to because it does have a single pcb with line voltages on it.  But all I did was connect tx,rx,3.3v,gnd and held the pic32 in reset.

Maybe a wise move to not do a How-To.

I suspect since the 2245 has the same LNK354GN switching power supply chip. It probably has the same issues with the capacitors as the 2413S/U PLM and Revision 2 Access Points. Not being specified as OK in switching supplies.

Where did you get PCB? Is it a prototype board? Can’t see any detail from photo.

Thanks
