I have an I/O Linc controlled by an ISY 994i ZW. When I recently opened the ISY Admin Console, I received the following error message. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much for your help.

Try right clicking the device in the tree and selecting "query" and see of the red ! point goes away.  It specifically means the last communication failed.  If it continues to fail then there are a number of troubleshooting steps we can try.   The easiest one since ioLinc are single band only, is to try and make certain there is a dual band device nearby AND on the same circuit....   See if this was a one time failure or a recurring problem first.

Hi MrBill - Thanks very much for your reply. When I selected query, the following dialogue box opened; however, the crawl didn't reach 100%. It only reached 89% then blinked out. I repeated this step several times, all with the same result. I then closed the Admin Console and reopened it, and received the same communication error. Regarding your second point about a possible phase issue, I've had this I/O Linc properly operating a water valve for several years until this communication error started appearing. Thanks again and I would appreciate any further ideas. - Jack 1902

There's a few wiki pages such as https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=INSTEON:_Troubleshooting_Communications_Errors

Two things to consider first in my experience, are have you added anything new or even changed and LED light bulb lately?  You may have added a noise source.  Second, if we bring the IOlink close to the PLM and plug it in on the same circuit can it communicate then?  It's possible the iolink took a surge for some reason.

Other things you can try in the attached links including restoring the device.. which If you attempt, I'd bring is near the PLM and plugged into the same circuit.

The I/OLinc is a power line only communications module.

You may want to open the Event Viewer in Level 3 and capture the messages between the ISY controller and the I/OLInc. To see if it shows anything.

Any new or moved electronic devices in the home? That may have started a communications problem. I have a portable AC and when plugged in it is a big signal sucker.

One other thought. The I/OLinc has a small switching power supply in it and may suffer the same failures as a 2413S PLM. Do you have a date code and revision number on a sticker on the back side? I have see a few capacitor changes between the old one and a fairly recent one.

Hi Brian H - Thanks for replying. Below is Event Viewer in Level 3. I don't see anything remarkable. Am I missing something?

Also, here's the back of the I/O Linc. Anything helpful?

Hi Brian H - Here's an update. The I/O Linc was able to communicate with the ISY when I relocated it next to the ISY but not when I moved it further away. I thought this indicated a noise problem; however, a friend had an extra I/O Linc that he loaned me. I connected the new I/O Linc at the original location and it successfully connected to the ISY!!! Good news for me...but bad news for my friend because I refused to return the I/O Linc that he loaned me. (I bought him a new one). Thanks again for your help. -Jack1902

Thanks for the update.

Since the original worked near the 2450 but only the replacement worked in the normal location. It does sound like the original had a communications problem.  Maybe the power line transmitter or receiver circuit has an issue.
