ISY Discontinued?

My friend does small automation installations and was told by his Canadian supplier that they are discontinuing the ISY.

Perhaps this just temporary for this supplier because of chip shortages?

Does anyone have any insight or rumors?

ISY is moving to Polisy.  I don't know how soon the 994's will be discontinued or how soon ISY on Polisy will be ready for mass consumption, it's currently in the Alpha testing stage.

So I have one serious question:  Is the ISY994 still a product being activly sold by Universal Devices?

Did the distributor indicate the ISY was discontinued or they have decided to no longer sell it?

The 2413S PLM maybe a harder thing to find.

Not sure when the Smarthome PLM Pro in the FCC Database will be available or if it is going to replace the 2413S. Due to the world wide electronic parts shortages.

Unless you are doing Z-Wave and don't need a PLM.

This is probably the deal.  They dont sell ISY because they look at ISY as an Insteon device and figure it is worthless without the PLM.  Of course ISY with the nodeserver and zwave support is not so much an Insteon device at all anymore.

Thanks MrBill.  I checked that too.  Hoping a company rep would calm the nerves.  You know you read all kinds of nonsence on the internet.  Thanks..

While the Isy will be discontinued at some point in the future, that future is not for some time. UDI has already stated (on multiple occasions) that it will continue to be sold once the console is ported to Polisy for those who do not desire all that polisy offers.

If you want to hear it directly from the company, a forum post isn't the way to go. For best results reaching out to UDI directly via their support channels would be the proper channels.

While they do chime in from time to time, the forums are really about other users providing a helping hand to questions

Nonsense? The Canadian supplier contacted me and said the ISY is on indefinite hold because they cannot get an ETA for shipping.

Thanks.

I just want to ensure, Polisy currently is an add on for the ISY Device? However, eventually, it might be the replacement? I don't understand the purpose of polisy. It looks like polyglot which I got configured on my ISY currently.

Long term Polisy would be an all in one box for Isy and polyglot. At some point in the near future support for Rpi will no longer be available. You will need to have Polisy to run local nodeservers

I think that @lilyoyo1 answer is complete, but just to make sure :

"Polisy currently is an add on for the ISY Device? "   Yes. Right now it is an alternative to having Polyglot on a RPi.

"  eventually, it might be the replacement? "  ISY Replacement and enhancement of Polyglot. Some time, probably sooner than later, we will be able to run ISY on Polisy, though I believe that (for time being) the stand alone ISY will remain functional. In  other words, you will not be forced to get a Polisy. However I also understand that the next version of Polyglot will no longer work on a RPi, so if you want to use nodeservers (and you really should)  Polisy will be needed.

"  I don't understand the purpose of polisy "  Think of color tv vs b&w tv.  When color tv's arrived, you could still watch your programs on your old b&w tv, but you got a lot more pleasure out of the color tv. Nowadays, I don't think that b&w tv's exist anymore.  The same with Polisy.... It is a lot more powerful device that will allow UD to bring us future enhancements to our home automation.  New users of ISY should go straight to Polisy and eventually existing ISY users will make the same move.

Please provide the name of this supplier publicly. This is absolutely false and we have ample stock. PLM is a different story.

With kind regards,
Michel

I only know of one Canadian supplier for Insteon. There may be more for UDI products, though.

https://www.aartech.ca/isy994izw-irpro/universal-devices-isy99i-zw-irpro-insteon-and-zwave-plus-automation-controller.html

On sale right now, but shows delay of 1-2 weeks.

Aartech is the supplier I contacted and they aren't taking orders for any of the ISYs.

I guess the only option is to order direct from UDI and pay full price plus the exchange and shipping.

From Insteon (US) you will have to pay exhorbitant shipping costs to Canada. My order. years ago was delayed for about 6 weeks and then I was shipped three defective items with very old date stamps on them. Then when each item was found to be defective, I had to pay shipping costs to return each item, even though the iRLinc I purchased had the sensor wired in reverse polarity, a total factory defect and not my fault at all. (DOA).

Without a commercial account, the return shipping was going to be around the same price as the part I was returning for replacement. Insteon would not honour my word and just ship me a new sensor cable (likely about $10). Later the other two items were found to be defective and the same warranty nonsense applied. Because Canadians pay their own shipping they are ripped off paying to return the product for replacement under warranty, even though it is Insteon's fault for not having any QC.

I would wait for aartech.ca, no matter how long it takes. They honour customer complaints and will even send you a box to ship it back in. They have been top notch to me over the years. My guess is they have to eat the losses for returned Insteon products.

They aren't - why I'm asking.  My emails confirmed the same.

"We are not allowing back orders due to an unknown ETA. Sorry about that!"

I think whoever you dealt with must be confusing the ISY and the PLM.  There web page for that looks like this:

As opposed to On Sale! for the ISY:

Or maybe the rep you spoke with for some reason thinks the two are connected and their would be no need for the ISY if you couldn't also order a PLM.

I'm sure @Michel Kohanim will resolve the issue with the distributor if there is one.

From Aar

My friend says tried to buy an ISY from AAR for one of his installs and was informed it is being discontinued.

Is this true?

Hi Mike,

Thank you for contacting Aartech Canada!

ISY994IZW+IRPRO is on hold at the moment due to it being on manufacturer back order. We are not allowing back orders due to an unknown ETA. Sorry about that!

Again from Aar

Thanks, what about a vanilla ISY Pro?

Hi Mike,

Yes, same story unfortunately.

Have a nice day,

Direct from UDI is not cost effective for Canadians, so I'll order once they have stock.

Is there any way to use the USB version with the ISY. I saw a comment somewhere that this was in the works.

That might be in the works for when ISY moves to Polisy which has USB ports.  So far Michel has only said they are working on it.  In short, it's not a short term solution.

The serial version repair thread is long, I wish I knew enough to abridge it down to a single post-- summarizing it however is beyond my skills.
