Feit Electric Acquires LIFX Assets

Here's a "fun" one for all of you that have used LIFX in the past and those of you looking at getting into Feit products...

I think @larryllix has said he used some LIFX bulbs in the past.

Just saw a post from @apostolakisl that he hasn't had good life from Feit bulbs (from Costco).

So seems like a match of mediocre products. Will be interesting to see if they improve either line.

I know I used LIFX for a brief moment. The wifi bulbs lasted about a year in a lamp that was on maybe 2-3 hours a day before it went crazy. I then switched to Kasa and experienced only slightly better life. For the price they all seem "disposable" at this point. Especially compared to Hue bulb prices.

I have never used LIFX bulbs. I have received all kinds of brands from online sellers claiming them to be MagicHome/LEDenet/FluxNet compatible but have always got refunded and only used the above mentioned compatible brands, as I have software that can interface with them and they typically cost less than $10 USD.

For standard old white dumb bulbs I have used Feit with good success. I have varied luck with Cree before HD in Canada just stopped selling them, due to so many returned bulbs.

Sorry...thought you had referenced that brand before as well. I knew about the others. My apologies.

No problem. I have seen LIFX bulbs in our Walmart stores, but they run about $60-$70 each, and I won't pay that for a RGBW bulb while I see them in other brands for $8-15. Further, I don;t know anything about their protocol and it was hidden at  the time I started developing my coloured lighting.

I did start with Hue bulbs but they have since been garbaged, not being capable of green. Paid way too much for that junk and they remain very expensive, no matter how good they have become.

I then went to MiLight bulbs and strips. They offered the best lighting colours I have seen but take a hub for every four bulb  group. Each group can consist of unlimited bulbs. When I went to add a third hub I reconsidered the bulb protocol. I spent a lot of time writing drivers to make those ones work, originally. They sit in a box now.

With MagicHome I can control many bulbs simultaneously, with minimal visible popcorn effect. I can also invoke many effects built-inside the bulbs. These are handy for flashing colour notifications / warnings.

I'll bet this is good news for LiFX.  I've had pretty good luck with LiFX, as I have several in the house, mostly for a very specific art studio application.  Their color saturation, brightness and vibrancy is far superior to older Hue products (not sure about the current crop - I only use white ambience Hue bulbs now).  Mostly, they don't fall off my WiFi (recent firmware improved in that area), and by creating groups in the node server, the popcorn effect was minimized.

I know the parent corporation filed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago.  I hope Feit keeps them alive and improves the product line.  I really do prefer the quality of light they produce.

I've used lifx for a couple of things around the house. While i like the multiple colors, I'm not a fan of them overall. I've replaced the 2 that I have in less than a year with both times taking much longer than it should've (the first took 9 months). Great color and brightness though. I'm still with my hue though
