rveit01 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 I was moving a keypadlinc dimmer from one location to another, and since the items to be controlled were different, I removed the keypadlinc dimmer from my isy before physically moving it. After completing the physical moving and rewiring, I tried to add the keypadlinc dimmer back to my isy. I selected "Remove existing links" and OK. After going through some system initialization, I got an error message saying "failed writing the highwater mark" and "node not added - failed removing links". I then tried to add it selecting "Add devices found in existing links and keep existing links", hoping that would work, but then I go an error message saying "node not added - failed reading links". Is there something I can do to get this to work? Any help would be appreciated. -- Ray
oberkc Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Perhaps I missed this, but did you perform a factory reset on the device? I am not sure that this will solve your problem, but it might, and it is easy. Is it possible that you have some communication issues? Can you find a outlet on the same circuit as your newly installed switch, run an extension cord from that outlet and use it to power your PLM, then try again? If this works, then you may be experiencing communication problems. I have read much about v35 switches having issues, but I assume yours is not this case, since I assume it was working before.
rveit01 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Yes, I tried a factory reset on the KPL, and got the same results. I can communicate from the PLM to a SwitchLinc Dimmer that is on the same circuit as the KPL, so I don't think it is an issue with the PLM and that circuit. The KPL was working in the previous location, so not sure what could be going on. I have a KPL dimmer that I planned on installing in a different location, so I might try it in this location to see if it is an issue with the circuit or the KPL. -- Ray
rveit01 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 I replaced the KPL Dimmer with another KPL Dimmer, and got a Request Failed when trying to do the add. It appears that the ISY might have a problem with linking these KPL Dimmers (the sticker on the KPL says is is V1.4). Please let me know if anybody has any ideas. I am running 2.7.11 firmware in the ISY. Thanks. -- Ray
rveit01 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Doh! I made the same mistake twice. I wrote down the Insteon IDs for my KPLs, and when I used them to add to my ISY, i entered the wrong IDs. That's why it wasn't adding properly. When I put in the correct Insteon ID, it added fine. User error . -- Ray
oberkc Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I am a little surprised that you add them manually. I understand that there may be some benefits to the more automated linking procedure, where one puts the ISY/PLM into linking mode, then the switch (typing errors are greatly reduced, for one thing). Yes, it might take a little more time, depending on how far they are away, or how many you have, but it seems like it is easier to me. Congratuations on finding your problem.
