elvisimprsntr Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) BACKGROUND I have been pleased with my ISY994i ZW IR PRO running 4.9.0. I managed to purchase a used ZW+ 500 module and upgraded my ISY to the latest 5.3.4 firmware. Hopefully, this will provide me a better future upgrade path to an eISY. SERIAL PLM TO USB ADAPTER I have not had any issues with my 2412S (knock on wood), but I thought I would try to connect to a USB to Serial adapter. I had a USB to Cisco Serial console cable I could repurpose. It contains the FTDI FT232 chip, supported by Linux/BSD/macOS/Windows, and from what I have read the same chip in the actual USB PLMs. I just cut off the existing RJ45, split the molded jacket, pulled out the three wires (RX, TX, GND), cut back the un-used wires, and crimped on a new RJ45. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082VZTB57/ Since I don't have an eISY, I connected the cable to my Homebridge VM (via Proxmox USB passthrough), PLM, and used some CLI tools to control some of my existing Insteon devices. https://sourceforge.net/projects/plmtools/ Edited February 25, 2023 by elvisimprsntr 4
