Can the 2nd battery life be added for the device?

I believe the batteries are in parallel, If that's the case, then when the battery level is low it means both batteries need to be replaced or recharged

Only 1 battery requires a charge when low.  Always just removed the low battery for recharge while 2nd continues  to power device.
