Switchlinc Status?

When I locally turn on/off a SwitchLinc I see nothing in Event Viewer. Does the SwitchLinc broadcast it's status or is it available only when polled by the ISY?

Thanks,

A SwitchLinc will only broadcast if it has at least one link. The PLM should create links with the SL when it is added to the ISY. Select the switch and use the context menu to Restore Device.

I've tried both to "Restore Device" and "Restore Link Between..." but this particular device is not sending a status. I have 2 Scenes each with a controller and a receiver. The other 3 do broadcast.

BTW... What happens with "Write Updates to Device?"

Thanks,

It it a controller of any other Insteon Device?

If so does it control that device?

No it's a responder. The controller for that scene as well as the controller/responder for the other scene all broadcast and can be seen in Event Viewer. Still, it seems to respond correctly to it's commands.

The reason I checked the Event Viewer while locally controlling was I had all devices in a single scene, removed the scene then developed two other scenes with them. I had a problem in that the scene this one isn't in was still linked and responding to the other program. I had to "Restore" all devices and when I started looking at the individual device links and how the thing worked noticed the difference in this particular SwitchLinc.

I am not sure this is relevant or not but a couple of weeks ago during some changes and reprogramming of devices and ISY I had 1 SL and 3 KPL’s lose their ability to update the ISY (or the ISY’s ability to see their broadcasts, not sure which). I also had tried restoring them, factory resetting them and restoring again in the ISY. Nothing helped. The ISY continued not seeing their status changes. However individually they did respond to scene changes (not from the ISY however but from other devices as controllers). For some reason restore never worked on these devices which leads me to believe that perhaps the ISY or PLM links for these devices were corrupt for whatever reason, but I am not sure.

In my case, I believe, the problem may have stemmed from some devices being activated (turned on or off manually) during programming or linking of other devices. I generally remove all AP’s to prevent MS and TL’s from transmitting during linking as well as disable all programs during linking or other system maintenance. But I failed to this time. Then I spent the next couple of days troubleshooting and repairing.

Long story longer I ended up having to delete the non working devices from the ISY, factory reset the devices then link them back into the ISY and recreate scenes. Afterwards all was working fine and back to normal.

Thanks Tim...

It was relevant and after doing a factory reset its status is now showing in Event Viewer after local control.

Problem Solved :)
