to_lighter Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Hi gang! I have an ISY 994i PRO, software 5.3.0. Last night my serial PLM died. I plugged in my spare this morning it lit up green. Fired up the LAN console and it wanted to do some reprogramming of all of the lights. I left it to do its thing for about an hour. Now it is doing something very odd. From the console interface I can control all my lights. If I look at the log on level 3, I see the outgoing message from the ISY and the ACK from the light. However, turning on/off any light does not generate any device communications events in my log, and none of my programs are triggered. I tried going a Restore PLM, and rebooting multiple times. No progress. Any ideas what I did wrong? Cheers!
Techman Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Did you follow the attached instructions for replacing the PLM? Replace Modem.pdf

Replace Modem.pdf 172.65 kB · 0 downloads Thanks! Yes I did. I just did a factory reset on the PLM with ISY unplugged from power and from PLM. Plugged the PLM back into the ISY and ran the Reset PLM function. If I turn off a light using the console, the light goes off and I see activity in Event Viewer. If I turn it back on at the switch, the light comes on but there is no activity in the Event Viewer, and the consult lists the light as On. If I query the light, it correctly reports as off. The Reset PLM function didn't seem to take very long, and now when I check the PLM Links table there are only two entries. Any thoughts? Cheers!
Techman Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 (edited) If you only have a few links in your PLM then the restore PLM procedure didn't work, i.e. the links in the ISY didn't get written to the PLM. Are you sure you ran "RESTORE MODEM (PLM)" from the file menu. If so, then do a restore devices Restore Devices Selecting this menu option starts the ISY to use the current configurations settings stored within ISY, and reprograms all the INSTEON devices based on them. Upon completion, this operation reboots ISY and closes Admin Console. This operation is most useful when a PLM is replaced or if INSTEON devices and their logical representations on ISY are out of synch. This scenario might happen if INSTEON devices are manually linked without using ISY’s GUI. Please follow the instructions below: If you are replacing a PLM: Please make sure you reboot ISY with the new PLM before doing anything else Click on File | Restore ISY and restore a good backup. If you are replacing a defective PLM, choose a backup from right before the PLM died. This is a very important step Once ISY reboots, wait for the query to complete If you have PRO series, click on the Battery icon on the top right corner of the tool bar. This prevents ISY from trying to restore battery operated devices since they are sleeping and will not respond Please make sure ISY is in Ready state Click on File | Restore Devices - this will take a long while In case ISY cannot communicate (or decides not to if an RF device/PRO Series) during the process, you will have a series of nodes with green 1011 icons in the device tree. For each one of those nodes: If an RF device, ensure that the device is in Programming mode Right mouse click | Write pending updates or Write updates to device... For some newer INSTEON devices, you might have to repeat this step a couple of times since some devices may not go into linking mode If you have PRO series, click on the battery icon on the toolbar so that ISY goes back to normal mode Edited December 24, 2023 by Techman
to_lighter Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Thanks for the replies! I ended up restoring to my last good backup prior to replacing the PLM, factory reseting the PLM, and then following the PDF that you sent to the letter. Seems to have worked! I must have missed a step the first time around. Cheers! 1
