simonw Posted May 4, 2010 Share Posted May 4, 2010 Greetings I am experimenting with using my Elk system to control Insteon lighting via the ISY. Basically it works fine, I can control all the Insteon devices. Every switch in the house is now Insteon, but I rely on wired occupancy and motion sensors connected to the Elk. In Elk RP there is a useful-looking programming construct "turn on device for x minutes". Right now this command only seems to turn on my Insteon lights, but never turns them off. Am I missing a trick? If it really does not work, please put this functionality on the request list for the upcoming and much desired Elk module. dlamb Posted May 4, 2010 Share Posted May 4, 2010 Hi Simon, As WayneW mentioned the lighting timer issue has been addressed by ELK and a new firmware version will be released soon. ELK-M1G firmware 5.2.0 and 4.6.0. In the meantime if you need the light(s) to automatically turn off after a trigger, you can use the timer associated with an unused output to turn off the light. Example: WHENEVER MOTION DETECTOR (Zn X) BECOMES NOT SECURE THEN TURN Light X ON THEN TURN OUTPUT 101 ON FOR X Minutes WHENEVER OUTPUT 101 TURNS OFF THEN TURN Light X OFF Regards, Don Lamb ELK Products Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
polexian Posted December 2, 2010 Share Posted December 2, 2010 Whenever I turn on the light for 5 minutes, if someone turns it off before the 5 minutes completes it will automaticaly turn back on at the end of the 5 minutes. I have some entry-way lighting that turns on for five minutes when a door is opened that is often turned off manually before the timer expires. After five minutes, the lights turn back on! simonw Posted December 3, 2010 Author Share Posted December 3, 2010 A-ha! ... thanks for bringing this up, it explains a lot of the weird lighting behavior I've seen but couldn't explain. II suppose it's back to using an Elk rule to turn a lights off if the corresponding output has gone off, like we had to do before the "turn on for x minutes" statement was "working".
