Zooz ZSE70 motion detector not working with Eisy Zwave add-on

I've been running Insteon devices for years with an Isy and now Eisy.  All I want to do is add a motion detector to the front of my garage.  Tried the Insteon Product.  Junk at best.  Needs to be battery as no power available.

I invested in the Eisy Zwave device, says it supports long range.  I invested in a Zooz ZSE70.  I got it to connect once, but I'm not sure it was all there and not sure it actually was talking.  Even in the same room it won't recognize the motion detector.  I'm perfectly willing to toss the Zooz and send back the Zwave device if someone has a working solution to my effort.  Any help appreciated.

The Eisy and Zwave add-on were all purchased and installed in the last few weeks.

The ZSE70 is currently running beta firmware. You should occasionally check their support site for the final firmware update which has not yet been released.

The LR is not yet supported on the eisy so it's possible that you may need a Zwave repeater between the eisy and the ZSE70

I've had good results with the EISY and Zooz product compatibilty.

Says that page does not exist when I click on it.

If I were to add the below:

Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Plus Range Extender and Signal Repeater ZAC38

Would that make the system work.  Eisy - ZMatter Board - Motion Sensor?  Not sure I understand how the Repeater works with the Eisy but the sensor will not.

I corrected the link, try again.

Zwave is a mesh network, just as Insteon is. The zwave signal, in a zwave mesh network, gets repeated by other non-battery Zwave devices

Zwave LR does not use the Zwave mesh network. The device communicates directly with the hub.

When you install a zwave LR capable device it should give you the option of either installing it as LR or as part of the Zwave mesh network

Depending on how far your ZSE70 is located from the eisy, and how may walls the signal have to go through, would determine if you need a repeater. Any plug in Zwave device acts as a repeater.  The ZAC38 would be a good choice, I have one in my network.

Here is what I have:  An Eisy, the ZMatter Board and the ZSE70.  I do not have a Zwave hub.  I thought that is what the ZMatter Board would do (mesh network hub).  Maybe I have that wrong.  If all I need to add is the ZAC38 to make it work, I'm fine.  Frankly, I'm confused why there is not an asterisk with the ZMatter Board page that indicates the LR is non-functional as part of an Eisy system.

The distance from the Eisy to the motion sensor will be less than 30 feet and one wall.

Otherwise, it maybe makes sense to return the UD device and maybe work on a different solution.  If that is the option, I need to know who makes a good quality outdoor motion sensor that will work with the Eisy.

I'm just trying to figure out the best thing to do without dropping money chasing something that does not work.

The EISY is the HUB. The Zmatter board which is part of the HUB supports the Zwave mesh network

As I mentioned earlier, the ZSE70 is currently using beta firmware, so it's possible that it may not be fully functional until the final firmware is released.

The Zooz products and the Zmatter board along with the EISY are all quality products.

You can try bringing the ZSE70 closer to the EISY, if it then works you'll need to add a repeater to extend its range.

In the interest of full disclosure, I figured out the problem and I sincerely hope my mea culpa helps someone else.

It helps everything work better if you put the Zwave antenna on the Zwave side of the Eisy ZMatter Add-on.  This was hard to write.

@DJonas

Glad to hear you got your issue resolved. How do you like the ZSE70, I was thinking of picking a few up to replace some of my Insteon MS.

Are there any issues with the MS beta firmware?

Still figuring it out.  Zooz says its range is 30 feet.  I'm seeing motion at closer to 40 feet.  That will be a problem for me if I can't adjust the angle or sensitivity enough to tone it down.  I have it pointed all the way down.  Might have to build a wedge mount.  I wish it had a range adjustment.

Tried setting some parameters but can't tell if they are getting reset.  I have the Event Viewer on and when I query a parameter, I see the get, but not a result.  Same with sending a parameter.  See a send, but not sure it is taking it.

I like the design and quality.  Not many outdoor motion detectors that are quality.  I tried the Insteon, which is probably indoors, but the mounting on that thing looks like it was designed by a five-year-old.

To reduce its range you have to set the MS senistivity (parameter 1) to a lower number, somewhere between 1 and 5.  The default setting is 6.

In the configuration setting insert 1 for the parameter number, and a value between 1 and 5 for the Parameter Value. and 1 Byte, then click on set configuration.

The Sensor must be in the linking mode before you press Set Configuration.Screenshot2024-10-06170210.jpg.1cda16a73e729364a86705da463f0c15.jpg

Which brings up the question, exactly what is linking mode?  Do I need to take it down, remove the back and use that back button?  If so, pretty poor design.

Yes you need to take it down and bring it next to your admin console. When you press the set button 1 time it will wake up the sensor for 10 seconds, then you need to quickly write the new config parameters while the sensor is awake.

Nice of them to give one so much time.  Sounds like it is going to have to go up and down a few times to get things adjusted.  I was thinking of putting a temp sensor in my attic.  If I have to retrieve it to reset something, that now seems like a bad plan.
