ISY994 sporadically turns everything on

Recently I have started having a problem with my ISY994 sporadically turns everything on and opens the garage door. It seems to be triggered by events like a motion sensor turning on a light or a time of day programmed event. Unplugging the ISY several times has not resolved the issue.

Is it time to replace the ISY994? With what?

Thanks,

Sorta sounds like the old Insteon All on event. ISY shouldn't activate devices on it's own.

Plenty of info in the forum and troubleshooting wiki to dig deeper.

If you are looking to update, easy is the most current and only available option.

I've seen mentions of the All On command events, and have experienced one myself. One question comes to mind: since it's a valid Insteon command, is the PLM able to receive and recognize this command? If so, shouldn't IoX give us the capability to look for the reception of an All On command, and allow us to use it as a trigger event, which would allow us to mitigate the effects?

Agreed on it being an "all on". While there's little definitive data, battery devices like motion sensors can be involved... in my experience when the batteries are allowed to die.

If you have a motion sensor where the battery died, or one that seems to be associated with the all on; factory reset it, right click on iox and pick "restore device"

Would an all on also open the garage door?

I have an Alexa sunset routine that turns on six lights. Worked perfectly until recently, varies some come on, none come on, works okay, everything comes on.

Yes. The "all on" is an Insteon feature... It's possible to send a message to all Insteon devices to go on instantaneously. It sometimes happens accidentally. there's actually an "all on" button at the bottom of iox.

How old is your plm? If your don't know for sure, post the 4 digits from the sticker on the back

If you are using an Insteon IO link to control your garage door then it could respond to an "all on" and open the door.

The "All on" issue is something I have not heard about for years.  Search the old threads in here about it.  I don't believe it was ever nailed down as to exactly what causes it and perhaps there is more than one thing.  I don't think it is the ISY that is doing it and I doubt replacing it will fix the issue.  But I have seen where it will mysteriously start, then just as mysteriously stop happening.  I had it happen a couple times many many years ago for unknown reasons and then I haven't had it happen again in over a decade.  I did not have any battery devices at the time.

I assume you are using the most up to date firmware for your 994i.  That unit is no longer supported and the most recent firmware is a few years old.  However, that firmware is very stable.
