Posted October 13Oct 13 I am trying to temporarily user an older ISY994 and have issues getting the Zooz Zen71 switches to join my Z- Wave network.. I was able to get an older Aotech binary switch online, but these do not seem to be visible within discovery even when the other switch is close - ideas? For association, the directions indicate 3x the top paddle. I also tried excluding, etc. no dice. The ISY994 just does not see it. I have the Z-wave board (500 series - I believe) - without the antenna. Thank you! Steve
October 13Oct 13 Try doing a factory reset on the switch, then an exclusion, inclusion on the ISY HOW TO FACTORY RESET THE ZEN71 Press and hold the lower paddle for 10 seconds or more until the LED indicator starts blinking. Release the paddle and immediately after, tap the lower paddle 5 times to complete the reset. The LED indicator will flash blue 3 times and turn red for 3 seconds to confirm a successful reset.
October 16Oct 16 Author Thanks @Techman - turned out to be distance from the hub!I was thinking that another zwave device could do the inclusion, but I guess not. So I end up running long ethernet cables across the house temporarily -Not sure what type of repeater also allows for new devices to be added...
October 16Oct 16 Being that Zwave is a RF Mesh network you should add a range extender placed about 20 feet from the ISYThe Zooz ZAC38 is an extender/amplifier that should fix your problemZooz 800 Series Z-Wave Plus Range Extender ZAC38 - The Smartest HouseThe ZAC38 has a built-in battery that will power the extender in the event of a power failure. This is a great feature if your ISY is on a UPS. Edited October 16Oct 16 by Techman
Saturday at 01:52 AM4 days Author Thanks - so I assume that devices that act as repeaters will not work, but instead a range extender is needed?
Saturday at 02:04 AM4 days All a/c powered Zwave devices act as repeaters, however if they're installed in a wall their RF range is somewhat compromised. The advantage of the ZAC38 is that it's both a range extender and an amplifier. Being that it's a plug-in device its antenna is external which benefits it coverage. It also has the 800 chipset which has greater range than the older 500 and 700 series.
