I just thought everyone might be interested to know...

Now that Google has shut off cloud functionality to the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Nest thermostats, programmers are trying to flash the firmware to make them functional again.

What would be truly awesome is if we were able to flash the Nest with custom firmware that let it talk to a eisy polyglot node. Not sure I have the chops for such an endeavor, but I am tempted to see how far I can get. Is anyone else interested? I'll report back with updates to this thread if/when I learn more about the status of the various solutions that emerge in the coming weeks/months.
