August 8, 201015 yr Smarthome is still honoring out-of-warranty claims for switches with inoperative paddles BUT as of 8/2/10 they now require that you furnish the version number of the defective switches when you call in. So copy them down before calling! I have replaced a total of about 15 V2 and Icon switches over the past year due to this issue. Smarthome extended replacement coverage for the affected devices to 7 years which is pretty reasonable.
August 9, 201015 yr They did a great job handling all 26 switches I had them do all at one time that where spread across 4 different invoices...here is the story I put together to document the experience. Replacing Decora 'Tap Issue' INSTEON Switches
August 9, 201015 yr One thing they did not do when I did it was ask for version numbers, wonder if there has been an increase in calls since the date when I did it.
August 9, 201015 yr Author According to the gal I was speaking to at Smarthome they just started requesting version numbers last week. They probably want to ensure that the ones they are exchanging are pre-2008 versions.
August 9, 201015 yr Another thing is all four of my invoices that had INSTEON Decora switches was before 2008 so that would be 100% guaranteed for them and makes me feel a bit better because I did not break the warranty rules. In the end I hope that everyone that has issues with the switches just gets the swapped because now I am so happy with my home and its automation.
