Do I need to Register 2443 Access Points in ISY/99i?

I noticed that my 2443 Access Points have Insteon addresses printed on the back. Do these need to be set up in the Administrative Console similar to how I've set up all of my other devices or are they just passive parts of the network?

If they do need to be set up, which of the 3 links options would I select on the New Insteon Device option?

Thanks,

Mike

What about a motion sensor? I have the 2494MSWH Floodlights with a 2420M wireless motion sensor so they turn on as you come down the drive.

Before I installed my ISY99 I had linked them and they worked. When I installed the ISY I added the InLineLinc and used the option to add devices found in links and keep existing links. The wireless motion is still working but it didn't get added to the ISY99.

My understanding of this device is only conceptual, but I understand the in-linelinc is the only insteon device in this kit. The motion detector is hardwired to the inlinelinc, is it not? If so, there would be no insteon motion sensor showing up...only the inlinelinc, itself, would be displayed in your "my lighting" tree.

When you added the InLineLinc to the ISY and kept the existing links, did you put the motion sensor into linking mode so the ISY could access it when the ISY found a reference to the motion sensor in the InLineLinc link database?

Without the motion sensor being in linking mode the reference to the motion sensor would look like a reference to a non-existing device since the ISY could not communicate with it. I don’t know for sure but would not be surprised what looks like a non-existing device did not get added as a device entry. Also the motion sensor must be added by specifying “INSTEON Motion Sensor†as the Device Type when a motion sensor is added to the ISY. That might be another reason it did not get added. You should be able to add the Motion Sensor using New INSTEON Device, specifying a Address, Name and Device Type.

I'm actually referring to another motion sensor that I bought to extend the range of the motion sensor light.

OK. My mistake.

I would have expected this to work, then, but also consider the possibility that the motion sensor would also have to be put into linking mode for this to be successful.

I did not. I thought it would find it because it was already linked to the InLineLinc. I'll get up in the tree and get the address to add it next time I am down there.

I feel certain it found the motion sensor address but since it could not talk to it may have chosen not to add what appeared to be a non-existing device. The ISY would not have known to add it as a motion sensor with three nodes since the type of device could not be determined.

You will have to take the motion sensor down as it has to be in linking mode for it to add to the ISY. When you click Ok on the New INSTEON Device popup there should be a prompt with instructions to put the motion sensor into linking mode.

How long do the batteries usually last? I was down at the house this weekend and the sensor light would flash twice when it detected movement. The instructions say that is a low battery warning.

Also, when I got down there on Friday my motion light kept coming on for no reason. I unlinked the wireless motion sensor on Saturday and that stopped it. I then added it to the ISY and tried setting up a program to monitor the motion sensor and turn on a light when movement was detected but couldn't get it to work. Is there a time frame after writing and saving a program before it starts working?

I think I need to find more info on how to use the motion sensor and get some fresh batteries. At one time I had it linked to the motion light and it would come on as I came down the drive. With the light coming on a lot, it's like the wireless motion sensor was stuck on.

Battery life depends on how often motion is detected. Mine is less than 6 months old and going strong.

There is no delay in a program working. The low battery may be a problem sending motion messages. Could also be a link issue that is preventing the ISY PLM from being notified of motion. The Event Viewer using the Device Communications Events option should show Insteon messages to the PLM when motion is detected. A flashing LED can also mean the responder, perhaps the PLM, did not ACK the motion message. Could explain the lack of Program trigger rather than being a low battery warning.
