Does the outletlinc not work as a dimmer? I thought that I would be able to use it as a dimmer like the lamplincs would? I put it in a scene with a KPL and it only turns on and off. Did I miss something? Please help.

No. This would be a code violation. If dimming is required, the plug-in modules are your only option.

That sucks. I guess I just assumed that they could dim. I need to look at description again because I don't find anywhere that says it does not dim. That kind of defeats my purpose for having them. I am stuck with 2 devices that don't work for me now.

Smarthome has a 30 day no-hassle return policy, if you bought them there.

The National Electric Code isn't always as convenient as we might want, but following it does help people avoid unintentionally burning their houses down or electrocuting themselves.

Why would a dimming OutletLinc be a code violation? What's the difference in having a dimmer in a J-Box as a switch vs. having it in a J-box as an outlet?

Expectation is that a "standard"-looking electric outlet supplies 120 volts & won't cause your vacuum or TV to overheat and start a fire. They figure people are at least smart enough to recognize 'something different' about a module plugged into an outlet.

It is also against code to use a dimmer switch in a J-box to control an outlet. Same reason. Too easy to blow something up.

Dimmer switch in a J-box controlling hard wired fixtures. OK.

Ah. That explains why no such device is available, I guess. Unfortuantely it brings up some code violations for me. I have numerous places where I have replaced a switch with Inseton dimmers that switches both a ceiling fixture and outlets (at least the top portion) in the room. Got to keep that in mind when I sell the house.
