Unstable non-dimmable Plug-In Module (2856S3B) Freezing

Featured Replies

I just installed some UnderCounter light in my Kitchen that I wanted to control with a Plug-In module via a KeyPad

I have a non-dimming plug-in module (2856S3B) that is driving my Undercounter LED Lights (a Transformer)..

I have weird issue with it. the first time I switch it On/Off, it light ON correctly, and go off correctly..

But after a few times, when I try to turn it on, it go ON for half a second and then turn off and don't reply anymore. Whatever command I send it it dosn't reply, it even get a "!" in the ISY Web UI.. the only way I can 'unfreeze it' is to UNPLUG the Plug-In module from the power source and plug it back.. It will start working for a few times and freeze again after a few attempt...

I tried to control it via a KeyPad and Directly in the Web Gui of the ISY99, same issue..

I got no experience with debugging Insteon Devices, all the other part of my Insteon Setup was working flawlessly..

Any suggestion how I can Understand the cause of this instability and fix it ?

Thanks :)

I don't know that I can explain what causes it, it but I do have one battery charger on an appliancelinc that would do the same exact thing. My battery charger is electronic not a transformer, and your LV light power supply is probably electronic as well. More than likely it is some sort of voltage spike created by turning the power off to the power supply which locks up the appliancelinc.

I found by installing a filter (X10 filter part number XPPF available on ebay pretty cheap) between the power supply and the appliancelinc, the problem went away.

I have a under counter fluorescent light with old type inductive ballast.

It will drive an Appliancelinc or Icon On Off adapter nuts.

It does sound like noise or spikes. Confusing or actually locking up the microcontroller in the module. So it is totally unresponsive to any Insteon commands.

I would second TJF1960's suggestion of trying a filter.
