Using scene to set flashing lights

Featured Replies

I'm looking at trying to replicate the 911 locator switch (Used in conjunction with your call for assistance, this solves the problem of nighttime house identification for emergency personnel by having your outdoor or porch light flash cutting response time to insure effective action. http://www.smarthome.com/4237/911-Locat ... ncy/p.aspx) with a scene.

Basically, I want to be able to activate a scene, and make exterior lights flash on/off. I'm worried medical/emt etc etc will not be able to find the house quickly... Any ideas on how to trigger something like this?

The only way that comes to my mind would be to use a program.

If

emergency condition exists

then

turn porch lights on

wait 1 second

turn porch light off

wait one second

repeat

else

Sounds easy enough. Any suggestions on how to trigger the condition to trigger this?

Well, it would be simple enough to duplicate the referenced locator switch by using an insteon switch as a trigger. Take your pick, but it is probably simpler to use a relay type. If you choose this route:

if

status insteon switch is on

then

turn porch lights on

wait 1 second

turn porch light off

wait one second

repeat

else

If you are a tinkerer, you may be able to create trigger from some other device integrated with an IOLinc. The solution comes down to the human interface you desire.
