Ramp Rate & Network Congestion

I have 4 lights on the ouside of my house.

I have them grouped into a scene.

The scene is set with a ramp rate of 9min.

I have a program that set the scene with sunrise and sunset.

During the on and off times the network activity goes crazy.

I leave for work during this time.

I am not able to turn off the lights or do anything else until the lights are off.

Is this normal :?:

No, that is not normal.

You may need to use the Menu selection File/Restore Modem (PLM). It sounds like you have links to unresponsive devices. Have you removed any devices lately?

You can right click "Copy to Clipboard" from the ISY Program Tree and paste the code (program) here. Then we can all see your faults

I am no longer using any X-10 devices. I have tried you suggestions. The problem olly exists while the light are ramping up or down. I dont think it is my program, because if I manually activate the scene, it does the same thing. I just leave it set a 2sec for now.

Here is my program:

If

From Sunset + 10 minutes

To Sunrise - 10 minutes (next day)

Then

Set Scene 'Porch/Patio Fade' On

Else

Set Scene 'Porch/Patio Fade' Off

That is odd. I have many scenes with 9 minute rates.

Ramp Rates and levels are stored in the responding devices. The ISY only sends one group command. Each device that hears the command searches it's database for the controller and group number. If it finds a match it uses the stored ramp rate to begin changing to the new level. When quired during the ramp time a device will report the finish level, not the level it is at.

Group 'cleanup' messages are simply the controller asking each device individually if it received the group command and the device responds yes or no. There are no levels or rates involved in the cleanup messages.

So it would be very unusual for a long ramp rate to cause any Insteon traffic.

Perhaps it is only one of the devices that is causing the traffic. You could try changing the ramp rate to nine minutes for one device at a time.

Sometimes X10 addresses are stored in devices from factory tests but I'm not sure if this would cause the activity you see.

thats a good idea. I will try that and let you know..

Thanks

Well, turrned all 5 down to .1s.

then turrned the scene on and off. Then changed them 1 at a time to 9min. I works fine now. That is strange. I would think if it was linking problem, that restoring the PLM and the devices would fix it.

Thanks again!

That is odd. I thought you would have found one device that screwed things up. I often use the Change All button.

Maybe Insteon is more like X10 than I thought
