RF_Burns Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Hello, I have a rec-room with about 35 halogen pot-lights, divided into 6 areas of 4-6 lights each controlled by a separate switchlinc. The switchlincs are in a wiring closest and not manually used. There are 2 keypad links that control the switchlincs. One KeypadLinc (I'll call "A") is used to individually control the switchLincs and the other (I'll call "B") is used to set "scenes" ie all on 100% or 80% or 3 areas at 30% for watch TV. KeypadLinc "A" with each button controlling a single SwitchLinc is set up as a "scene" for each button/SwitchLinc combination. The other keypad "B" that sets "Scenes" for the rec-room has all the settings under one "scene". My issue is the when I turn on the lights with KeypadLinc "B" using the say 80% button, none of the buttons light up in KeypadLinc "A"... so if I then want to turn OFF one area, I must press the associated KeypadLinc "A" button twice. The first time will turn it "ON" even though it is already "ON" the button light is OFF, so then I press it again to finally turn it OFF. KeypadLinc "A" does not seem to know its switchlincs are ON. Also if I press the "MAIN" button on KeypadLinc "B" which is all on 100%, all the other scene buttons turn ON. I must press any other "Scene" button twice (to all OFF then ON) to make it goto that scene setting. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? I think that KeypadLinc "A" should lite its buttons according to what SwitchLincs are ON and KeypadLinc "B" should have only one button ON corresponding to the "Scene" selected. Thanks
LeeG Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 RF_Burns For a KeypadLinc A button to light up it must be part of the Scene controlled by the KeypadLinc B button. Insteon does not propagate Scene commands. When KeypadLinc B turns On a SwitchLinc as a Responder that SwitchLinc does NOT then become a Controller and turn On its Responders. Insteon does not work that way. Every device (including KPL buttons) that is expected to react must be a Responder of the Scene. As far as all KeypadLinc B Secondary buttons turning On when Main B is pressed it sounds like the Secondary buttons on KeypadLinc B are linked as Responders to Main B. Lee
RF_Burns Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Lee, Thanks for your response. I'm guessing then I should have keypadLinc "A" buttons under the same scene as "B". I'll also check the buttons on keypad B to see if the buttons are set as responders to the main button. thanks again
LeeG Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 If KeypadLinc B button C is controlling a Scene with 3 SwitchLincs as responders, the KeypadLinc A buttons that control the three SwitchLincs should also be Responders in the Scene controlled by KeypadLinc B button C. You may run into overlaps that produce undesired KeypadLinc A button LED responses depending on the overlaps of SwitchLincs being controlled by the various KeypadLinc B buttons.
RF_Burns Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Ok, I tried adding a button from Keypad "A" to the Keypad "B" scenes, however it just seemed to add another "overall" scene, ie. press that keypad "A" button and its going to want to change levels for all the lights, not just the one group its associated SWL controls. For instance, I moved Keypad A button C which I want to control the Bar lights. When I move it into the Keypad B scenes, I can't just assign keypad A button C to control the bar light SWL and leave all the other lone at their settings, I have to set all the SWL's in the scene. I'm likely not understand something here.
LeeG Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 "the KeypadLinc A buttons that control the three SwitchLincs should also be Responders in the Scene controlled by KeypadLinc B button C." I think the KeypadLinc A button was added as a Controller to the KeypadLinc B Scene rather than a Responder as was suggested.
RF_Burns Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Lee, Youare correct, i did set the keypad A button as a Controller. I'll try again as a responder! thanks
