GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) safety outlet

I have a trigger linc on my garage door that turns on an interior house light when the door is opened. I was having reliability problems with the light.

I had an access point in the garage that was plugged into a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) safety outlet. Moving the access point to a regular outlet has resolved the communication issue.

Some GFCIs can cause problems.

Though the Access Point may have just been in a poor location and when you moved it. Things got better.

Was the other outlets location a distance from the GFCI one and maybe on a different circuit?

Same circuit. The new outlet was on another wall in the garage. I had originally picked the GFCI outlet as it was the closest outlet to the trigger linc.

flsenior,

Since the other outlet you chose is on another garage wall, most likely it is also GFCI protected. It may even be fed downstream from the first outlet you used?

People sometime assume that GFCI's are the issue and as Brian pointed out it could be the new location itself rather than the particular GFCI outlet. Since you are using a triggerlinc you have both RF and powerline communication routing that can affect performance.

Systems can be marginally communicating all the time and the smallest change can make a difference.

Anytime someone claims that a GFCI is at fault for their communications issues, (and they are adamant) , I would recommend they change the GFCI outlet . If it is truly affecting Insteon communications at 131Khz then what issues may also be lurking at 60Hz?
