SynchroLinc vs ApplianceLinc

Couple questions I'm hoping can be answered here. Basically I want to be able to detect my fireplace fan turning on (it's thermostatically controlled), and trigger my ceiling fans to turn on.

 

SynchroLinc can do this, but it's controller-only, right? I can't also turn off the fireplace fan using this?

 

ApplianceLinc can turn it on and off, but can it sense the load coming on on it's own and trigger a scene?

The SynchroLinc is a Controller Only device. It cannot be turned Off with a command from another device.

 

The ApplianceLinc is a Responder Only device. It does not have Controller capability so it cannot send commands when load sense turns the ApplianceLinc On.

 

The capability of any given device to function as a Controller and/or Responder can usually be determined by looking at the User Guide. There will be linking instructions as a Controller and/or as a Responder if the respective capability exists.

Gotcha, thank you for the tip. One more question then - the LampLinc looks like it has Sense, so you can use the local load's on/off switch, but there's no info about setting it up as a controller. Does this mean it can control itself locally by sensing the load, but it doesn't send that out to the rest of the world, i.e. can't trigger a scene?

 

If that's the case, I could setup a program to check the status and then trigger the ceiling fans from there, right? Is there any way to disable the dimming on the LampLinc, so it's always either 100% on or 0% off, since it'll have a fan hooked up to it?

The LampLinc is a dimmer, not rated for a blower motor. It does have Controller capability so it does send commands when turned on by load sense or the manual On/Off buttons.

 

A 120V relay could be connected in parallel to the blower motor. The relay contacts could be connected to the Sense wire of an InLineLinc which will turn the InLineLinc On and Off as the blower turns On and Off. The relay contacts could be used to control the Sense line of an I/O Linc with the same On/Off result. The I/O Linc Sense connections would be low voltage wiring rather than the 120V wiring required for an InLineLinc w/sense.
