Cant Link 2420M Motion Sensor (5011 Rev 2.1)

Recommended Posts

I think I may have a defective motion sensor. I tried all different ways to link this using my isy-99i software.

I set jumper '5' to 'on'.

When I try to link (after pressing the 'set' button on the motion sensor) eventually I get a message from isy "Failed writing highwater mark -200000/-1" and then "Node not added, Failed removing links". On subsequent tries (after I did a 'factory reset) I did notice a message, while it was trying to add the device "failed getting engine version, reverting to i1).

I'm not sure what to do at this point...I did find some postings of folks having this same problem, but I couldn't quite figure out how they resolved this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sure. Take a backup under the current ISY image. Then upgrade. Be sure to clear the Java cache and use the URL for accessing the 3.2.2 Admin Console. Run Help | About when on 3.2.2 to confirm the Firmware line and the UI line both indicate 3.2.2.

A Beta by definition does not have as many hours of testing as an Official release. I have found the 3.2.2 Beta to be very stable. It is the only option for using the Insteon devices that require I2CS support. If you run into serious trouble reinstall the current ISY image and backup if needed.

OK. I just installed the new 3.2.2 firmware, cleared my cache and started up the admin console with the new 3.2.2 admin console. Still no luck.

I get a "Node not added - Failed Restoring Device" -200000/-10 error.

I did a reset on the 2420M, and got the same error again.

I also re-booted the isy99 and tried again, same error, no luck adding the device.

Any other suggestions?

Delete the Motion Sensor if needed. Run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer with Level 3-Device communications events selected. Put the MS into linking mode, use New INSTEON Device entering the Insteon address, Name, and selecting Motion Sensor from the Device Type pulldown. Post the event log.

The file is not that long. Bring it up under WordPad and copy the lines to the clipboard and paste in the forum. Based on the few lines posted the Motion Sensor is not responding to commands. Perhaps not in range of a Dual Band device or not in or timed out of linking mode.

SUCCESS!

I was finally able to program the motion sensor by putting it right next to the unit. I did a bit of experimenting, and maybe it's my imagination, but I wasn't able to communicate with the Motion Sensor when it was next to my laptop. As soon as I moved the motion sensor a few feet away, it seemed to work fine.

Thanks again for all the help.
