flemingmike Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Hi all, do I need to upgrade to the IR in order to use IRLinc Receiver? I just did the upgrade to ir, but now im wondering how to use the IR. My isy is burried in the basement with all of my networking gear so the ir eye isnt in sight.
LeeG Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 " do I need to upgrade to the IR in order to use IRLinc Receiver? " No. The ISY IR receive capability is independent of any other Insteon device including the two IRLinc devices.
flemingmike Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 what is the best way to use my tv remote to control insteon devices? my isy is currently in my basement in the wiring room.
oberkc Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Given that your ISY is not in the same room as the TV, and assuming your remote is IR, I would use an IRLinc. You can find these on the smarthome website.
Brian H Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 You may want to look at the 2411R Manual to see if your TV remote will work with it. It only accepts NEC IR Codes. Page 12 of the Users Manual gives examples. http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/2411R.pdf I believe the unit ships with a remote also. They also make IR Extenders. Where you point the remote at a IR receiver and it sends a RF signal to its mating receiver in another part of the home. It then converts it back to IR that can then activate the IR sensor you added to the 99i.
