RichTJ99 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Hi, I just moved to a new home & this one has a sprinkler system with 4 zones. The controller/timer is dead & needs to be replaced. I was thinking of getting an ISY based controler - EZFlora. I was curious, is it any good, is it worth it or should I get something else? Thanks, Rich
homejones Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I was researching this option as well. It looks like a great option when combined with the breakout expander and rain sensor. Curious on other people's thoughts.
TJF1960 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I have had an EZFlora running my 7 zones now for about 2 years...Been very happy with its performance and integration with the ISY. Tim
RichTJ99 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 What is the breakout expander & rain sensor? Is that part of the EZFlora or part of the ISY? I like the idea of using the ISY to handle the sprinklers.
LeeG Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 The Zone connections are made with small screw terminals, very similar to the I/O Linc connections. The EZFlora also has an RJ45 jack just behind the screw terminal block that can be used to connect a rain sensor and pulse water meter. The small breakout connector as well as a rain sensor are sold by Simplehomenet (manufacturer of the EZFlora). The breakout connector has an RJ45 jack to screw terminal connector which allows a standard RJ45 cable between the EZFlora RJ45 jack and the breakout connector jack. Then the rain sensor and pulse water meter (both optional) can be connected to the breakout connector screw terminals, just like the Zone connections. I have used an EZFlora for several years with no problems. If you do decide to go with the EZFlora I recommend purchasing it from Simplehomenet directly. This insures the latest EZFlora firmware and direct manufacturer warranty. Smarthome should have the latest EZFlora as it has not changed in more than a year but I still recommend the Simplehomenet web site for purchase of any Simplehomenet device. Guest smontclair Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 +1 on the excellent isy and ezflora. I just finished design of a 30 zone, 350 emitter system in a city park and I prefer the simplicity and granular control of the isy/ezflora. For my money, skip the breakout unless you need the pulse meter. Get the isy weather and irrigation modules and use the programs in the wiki. That's all you'll need.
paulw Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Have had mine for several years. Once had a lockup where it had to be factory reset. Works great.
