Mark Sanctuary Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Hey guys, Looks like the format war is over, the winner is ... Blue Ray! Today Toshiba Announces discontinuation of the HD DVD businesses. Also The Digital Bits has a play by play write-up if you like. Yippee! I bet over the next few months the prices are going to drop and players are going to sell, because the HiDef Disk market finally has one path! I know I will be getting one soon now. Quote
ResIpsa Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Will you get a stand alone player, or just pony up for a PS3? As much as I love video games, I just don't have any interest in the PS3. And the fact that I can't control it with my Harmony 880 doesn't help, either. I'd rather pay for a stand alone Blu-Ray player than a PS3. Quote
MikeB Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I believe the PS3 has an inexpensive add-on that allows for IR control. If I decide to get a Blue Ray player, I will seriously consider a PS3. It has the best potential for future updates to keep it compatible with new features as they are added to the format. Quote
Mark Sanctuary Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 I am a stand alone equipment type of guy. Being a sound man at my church does not help either, I just can't keep my hands off of electronic toys. My favorite stand alone component is my Behringer BFD subwoofer EQ, which I have almost flattened the sub response in my room. You just can't believe what a difference it makes to the low end of the home theater system. Also I am not much of a gamer so I only have a Nintendo GameCube; Mario, Zelda, Star Wars Lego’s, etc. Quote
