Insteon 2842 Motion Sensors That Flash ALOT.

Gee....I have 3 that do this:

 

Walk into the room....triggering the sensor.....it flashes about 20 times in a row.

Batteries are all new, and all sensors are brand new - less than a month old.

 

All sensors - Jumper 5 set to all software control.

All sensors are accessible and respond to the ISY just fine.

 

Just why do they flash so blasted much?

One or more devices that are linked as a Responder are not ACKing the Motion On message sent by the Motion Sensor. If no devices have been linked as Responders the Motion Sensor is not receiving the ACK from the ISY PLM.

 

It means there is not reliable RF communication with the Motion Sensors.

1 of the motion sensors is 8" from the 2413S that is attached to the ISY.

It's a dual band unit.

 

There is also a dual band keypadlinc not 6 feet away.

 

I just can't imagine that range to a dual band unit is the issue.

 

There are no scenes....all on/off light switching is done

with programs in the ISY (at this point).

 

Is there anything else I can look for? Or any other ideas?

Unreliable RF....I'll have to ponder and see what I can do.

I have 3ea. dual band units all within 10 feet of the sensors.

And an insteon phase jumper installed at the main breaker box

in the garage. All insteon devices are less than 1 month old.

I'm pretty confidant that range just isn't the issue.

All 3 motion sensors are in the same room with the PLM/ISY

and a dualband keypadlinc.

 

Could it be RF over saturation?

I guess I could pull the batteries on 2 of the 3 motion sensors

and/or move the PLM/ISY 50 feet away down to the garage

and see what kind of difference that makes? Does that seem like the thing to do?

I would not move anything at this point. Pick a Motion Sensor that is close to the Dual Band PLM. Put the Motion Sensor into linking mode with the Set button. Right click the Sensor node, select Diagnostics | Show Device Links Table and post the results.

 

The flashing LED is a lack of an ACK. Usually the result of comm. problems but could be a link record issue. Being that close to the Dual Band PLM comm. problem seems low on the possibility list unless something between the MS and the PLM like a floor, wall, something metal like a refrigerator, etc

Are there any wireless baby monitors, wireless phones in the 900 MHz band, any appliances that have wireless monitor devices, Venstar thermostats, etc that could interfere with Insteon RF.

No venstar, or 900Mhz devices. My only cellphone usually is not in the room when it happens.

There is an apple time machine/access point on my desk within feet of the ISY/PLM/1 sensor.

Computer is right there too. All devices are sitting on my L shaped desk with no walls or metal

in between anything.

 

There are 3 motion sensors in my "staging room". With the PLM, there is a total of 2 dual band units

in the room also. Just a bedroom on the 2nd floor. I build up something, get to know the hardware/software

and then move it out to another part of the house. All house wiring is 5 years old with neutral and ground everywhere.

 

Screen shots show something interesting....how do I resolve the error?

I have 3 sensors with anomalies in the links table.

This looks like the worst.

I can post pics of the others if that seems necessary.

Should I just delete them from the ISY and then factory reset the sensors?

Then add them back in?

Yes, that is what should be done. The factory reset will clear the extra link records. That motion sensor has Controller links for at least 3 different devices. With it not being in any ISY Scenes there should only be three Controller links pointing back to the ISY PLM, one for each node, Sensor,Dusk/Dawn,Low Bat.
