Newbie Question - How do you assign scenes to keypad buttons

I have created 3 scenes, and I would like to add each to the A, B and C buttons on 3 different keypads.

1. How do I add a button from a keypad to the scene so that it is a controller?

2. Do I then have to write to the keypad so that it is updated (and would work if the ISY went down) or is this done automatically

3. Can I add the A button's from each of the 3 keypads to the same scene? Would one be the controller and the others be responders? Would the LED on the buttons stay in sink?

4. If one of the lights in the scenes is turned on will the button also turn on?

5. Can I make a Scene of a scene (it doesn't look like it), so that D can be an aggregation of A, B and C?

Last item - I have manually programmed these buttons (but that quickly becomes very difficult to manage - is there a way to remove all the links on the buttons that have been manually linked (I went to the button group and saw a reset button and it came with a big warning about not using it...so I want to ask before doing anything)

Thank you for your help with this.

1. How do I add a button from a keypad to the scene so that it is a controller?

Drag the KPL button to the Scene Name and Drop. Note that an Insteon paddle/button can be a Controller of one Scene only. This is the Insteon design point, not an ISY limitation. Need to know why a given KPL button needs to be a Controller of more than one Scene.

2. Do I then have to write to the keypad so that it is updated (and would work if the ISY went down) or is this done automatically

The Scene will work even if the ISY is down. The ISY automatically writes the necessary link records to the Controllers and Responders

3. Can I add the A button's from each of the 3 keypads to the same scene? Would one be the controller and the others be responders? Would the LED on the buttons stay in sink?

KPL button A from all three KPLs can be added to the same ISY Scene as Controllers. Button LEDs will stay in sync.

4. If one of the lights in the scenes is turned on will the button also turn on?

No. Insteon does not work that way.

5. Can I make a Scene of a scene (it doesn't look like it), so that D can be an aggregation of A, B and C?

No. Scenes cannot be chained together.

Do not use Button Grouping. If mutually exclusive KPL buttons (radio buttons) are desired use a Scene to accomplish this.

Factory reset will remove all the KPL links including the manual ones. After that a Restore Device must be run to put back the link records the ISY created when the KPL was added to the ISY.

Thank you for your responses

I'm not at home at the moment, but I didn't see any place to drag and drop the LLP buttons. On the left side it only shows one item under my lighting

Re reset - I assume this is a must otherwise I'll have a performance hit. Is that correct?

A KeypadLinc has either 5 nodes (6 button KPL) or 8 nodes (8 button KPL). There is a + sign to the left of the Primary node in the My Lighting tree.

Click the + sign to expand the KPL definition showing all the KPL nodes.

A Factory Reset is a must. Or the device can be Deleted from the ISY and added back with the 'erase existing links' option. The ISY is not aware of manual Set button links. They will get deleted or overlaid leaving broken/half links which produces unwanted results.
